Not sure if this is the right forum, but the most people seem to be on now and I need some advice.

Trying to cover a dummy (of the cake variety, hehe) with Satin Ice fondant. It keeps cracking and driving me nuts.

How do you keep your fondant from cracking? I'm about to go nuts. I've taken it off and recovered it twice now.

TIA,

Sounds like it's a bit dry. Just put some shortening on your hands and knead it into the fondant. Continue to do this until the fondant is pliable again. Should it be sticky, sprinkle your work surface with some confectioners sugar and knead it in until it is no longer sticky. One treatment or the other is all it usually takes.

Make sure you are not using the fondant you keep it covered up. Also you want to have your cake or dummy in this cake ready to go before you roll out your fodant. You want to cover the cake as soon as you roll it out. If you wait it starts to dry and that causes cracks too.

I think as well that the fondant is dry. I have noticed that the room temperature has a lot to do with it as well when you are working with fondant. It dries much quicker if it is cool ( or you have a window open and a cool breeze is blowing on the fondant when rolling it out)
The best to work with it is if your kitchen is warm and humid in my opinion.

I also find that buying season appropriate fondant helps as well.
