I have never used or tasted gumpaste or marzipan....you can eat it?
Is it hard to work with...I have seen some beautiful work made out of these.

can't speak to issue of gumpaste
but marzipan is definately edible -- that is if you like almonds. It's a stiff paste of very finely ground almonds and sugar. Slightly oil (from almonds), definately sweet. takes color well (tho' true white not possible due to natural color) and molds well into all kinds of shapes.
Gumpaste is concidered edible. I haven't tried it but I'm thinking it really has no taste other than sweet. It does dry really hard, so people don't general eat it.
I think gumpaste tastes like that horrible gum you get in packs of baseball cards! Bleh!!!
Gumpaste is considered edible, but it dries so hard, it really isn't intended to be eaten. Also, much of what you use it for (flowers) usually requires wire, making it a decoration - to be removed and saved, not eaten.
Marzipan is sweet almond paste. Mostly people either love it or hate it. it holds it's shape, but doesn't get hard as gumpaste.
Marzipan is yummy! ( for me at least) i couldn't do anything out of it because i actually would eat it before i could get anything done.
Thanks everyone for all of your posts...I would like to start working with the gumpaste and marzipan to see how I will do...so thanks.
