Looks like this thievery of pictures is pretty common in the cake business. icon_eek.gif I'm jealous because I would never have a photo they'd want to steal. I barely please my friends and grandkids. icon_lol.gif In all seriousness, this is a shame that people resort to this kind of act. The fun would be in seeing them try to equal some of these cakes. icon_biggrin.gif

Maybe we could all order one. Wonder what would happen if we all inquired about one of them and mentioned that we saw it on the elegant cheesecake site and ask her if she could do it cheaper than them.............way cheaper. icon_lol.gif

She'd probably say "yes" and then give us what we paid for....cheap cake!

kitagirl...I was just thinking the same thing about someone ording that cake! icon_wink.gif

Or maybe even print out both pictures and take it in their shop and say what a coincidence that every decoration is EXACTLY the same!!!! icon_lol.gif

In her defense I just emailed her about the picture and she said she obtained it from a CD she bought on Ebay without knowing the origin of the pictures. She also said she would remove them immediately. Even though I would have never done that....good for her for correcting the mistake! thumbs_up.gif

Oh wow so now people are making MONEY selling our photos on EBAY?

That opened a can of worms. icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif

I am glad that she is willing to remove the photo! thumbs_up.gif

However...I still do not understand why anyone would want to use a cake photo on their website that is NOT their own design. thumbsdown.gif

I only use photos of cakes that I have made MYSELF on my website! thumbs_up.gif

And...I can not imagine people selling a CD with other peoples cake photos on EBAY.

And even more strange...that someone would actually buy it!!!! dunce.gif

Maybe they have the skill level to make stunning cakes, but either A) haven't made a wide variety of cakes or B) couldn't take a photo good enough to put on a website.

BTW, The cheesecake photo is one of the most beautiful cakes I've seen. WOW!

I just went to ebay and typed in cake photos on cd
it gave me 14 results (for the same cd) for 1,000 plus pictures of wedding cake photos/ pictures on cd rom. from 3.99 to 6.99. Scary! I didn't know there was such a thing!

You know, most real decorators that I've seen show off their wedding cakes first (at least tiered cakes), followed by shower cakes-wedding & baby, groom's cakes & Valentine's (romantic-type cakes). Maybe, depending on the site, they'll show b-day & other special occasion cakes but they aren't the "showcase". I mean, the only cakes I saw on the "chef's" site were a Barbie, crocodile, superman & Kitagirl's soccer cakes. No matter how great those cakes are, they aren't the wedding or even "romantic dinner" type that she is promoting as her area of expertise. icon_confused.gif Would someone expect to pay the $$$ she charges for her meals for all other occasion cakes? I thought chefs/cake decorators were known 1st for their intricate, detailed Wedding/tiered cakes!

That seems weird to me.
Just my 2 cents here. icon_smile.gif

Unfortunately I haven't had very many wedding opportunities as somehow I got into the "kids cakes" thing and since that's what I have made, that's what's on my site and what I keep having to make! icon_lol.gif So my wedding page is not first.

I see what you are saying though, the photos were weird anyway for a catering service.

I wonder how many of our cakes are on those Ebay cds?!

Maybe the kid's cakes were in the early stage of the business when she was doing a lot of birthday parties? Checked out her current site and does offer great catering selections. It looks like all of her photos come from a photo cd.

I'd say someone should buy that CD and see how many stolen pics are on it. Like Kitagirl said, "This opens up a whole new can of worms." I'd say that they couldn't use anyone's photos on the CD without written permission. What's everyone's take on that?

Somebody should at least ask the seller where he got the photos on the cd. Not that somebody like that would necessarily be honest about it, but its worth a try.

Now I'm getting paranoid. I haven't posted many newer photos (except a few from work), so a lot of them are fairly old, still...... they're mine! And I'm fairly proud of some of my newer posts, my stenciled dragon, the cookies and the airbrushing..... I would be heart broken if someone tried to steal them.

Also, did the seller NOT see the little Rights Reserved symbol next to the watermark? Sue their butts, maybe then they'll knock this crap off!
Whoa! Surge of energy there, need to lay off the Mocha Frapps.

Something weird happened at school last night. I got on one of the school's computers and on the desktop were pictures titled "Finding Nemo 1, 2". I clicked on one of the pictures and it was my cake! I was so shocked. The teachers and the people in my class know I make cakes, but no one knows that I uploaded some of my cake pictures onto this site. It was just really surprising to see my cakes on the computer. Of course, I deleted them.

Yes, I've shared the story on here before of one of my cakes being "stolen" by a classmate. When she opened her class binder there was an 8x10 pic of my cake which she claimed "the instructor sent her by mistake"....uhhh...then why did you print it out?? Anyways, that's why I emailed this lady...it gets personal after it has happened to you.

When I delete stuff it doesn't go into the Recycle Bin. I right-click on the object(s) I want to delete and the little drop down menu pops up. Before I click on "Delete" I hold in the shift key. It deletes the objects completely instead of putting them into the recycle bin.

Ahh, you have to watermark everything!! Geez..what's the world coming to!?

Not that your situation doesn't matter, but at least it wasn't your child!! I had someone steal a picture from my MySpace webpage, and they passed my little baby off as THEIR child!!!!!!! That's right..she changed the eye color from blue to brown, and erased the background of the image and added a satin background, so the picture looked professionally taken. My friend brought it to my attention, it happened to be another Military Wife that had seen my profile in a group..I brought it to the only person I could think of that could do something about..Matt's commander of his squadron. He had local government close her MySpace account down!!

THAT WAS SCARY!!!

I'm kinda freaked about posting too many kid pix because of kidnapping and stuff but that just adds one more reason....wow. I guess in my naivete I didn't realize this was so widespread...photo stealing...yikes.
