Hi Abaker, first relax.. it happens, it always happens when getting dark colors by adding americolor to fondant, at least to me. I usually prefer to use cakecraft for dark colors because of that, Heres what to do. Here's what i do, leave it for a few minutes to an hour, to stiffen up a bit, covered loosely in plastic wrap. Or apply shortening to your hand (not too much) and to the mat where your cutting, roll it out and give it a few minutes to stiffen up a bit and then cut out the petals. YOu could always also dust your hands and the surface with some cornstarch and need it till its worked in.

HTH,

Jen thank you for your reply. Are the cake craft colors a drier paste than the americolor?? Have you ever tried powdered colors? Again thanks

NP, yes the cakecraft colors are a thick paste sorta like the wilton colors, but comparable quality to americolor, i love the americolor gels, but i have that problem with them, so i tend to use them more for tinting buttercream and not for use on fondant. I do have the powdered, but i find that they are not good for working into the fondant. What i use them for is when i want to get a really true shade of a color, example black.. i use the black food coloring and no matter how much i use is still looks like a deep chocolate color, so i mix the powdered with some vodka and brush it on the finished piece, like gumpaste or fondant decoration and it comes out true to color black.

Im glad i could help icon_smile.gif

Any time you use a lot of colour in fondant,it gets sticky ( normal ) just put shortening on your hands & knead it in until " stickiness " goes icon_biggrin.gif
