KayDay, at first my thoughts were the same about bringing the cake home with me. The more I think about it though, it would have broken the little girl's heart. She obviously has enough to deal with having to put up with an idiot mother!

Tammy, chalk it up to experience and know that the good Lord was proud of you for being a nice polite lady about the situation. Don't think I could have been that nice. Would probably have told her to put the cake in some part of her anatomy and I don't mean her mouth. icon_mad.gif

Good luck on your packing and move back to Biloxi. By the time you get done with all that you'll surely be ready to be in the cake business again. thumbs_up.gif

Well, the birthday girl loved it and that is the most important thing. I think she had very good taste! Sometimes people that are critical, perfectionists, act like that, are really unhappy with themselves and afraid that someone may find fault with the decisions and choices they make. Sounds like this lady might be one of them.
I think the cake looks lovely done both ways, I won't even say what I think of the extremely, rock-bottom, lower than an ant's knee, price you let her have it for... But you tried to make her happy so you did the right thing, she did not.
Anyway kiddo, you do really, really good work and you must know that. Sorry about this whole experience!
Hugs Squirrelly

Hi Tammy,

I just wanted to say that I liked both versions of your cake. All of your cakes are gorgeous! Just remember that some people are just like that. I hope that you will not stop doing cakes because of this...you are very talented. That lady was just a bad apple! icon_smile.gif

Hey you guys! I just need to tell you all thank you so very very much! It's a quarter till midnight here...and I just finished my last order for the weekend. You guys all throughout the day I've been reading your post. You really know how to Lift a girls spirit when it has been beaten down like a Pinata (sp). I don't know what I would do with out you as a network and as friends to talk to. KayDay, I am indeed happy you said what you said...Yes it does stress me out it's not so much the pressure but just the stress alone is what I don't need right now. When I said I'm quitting...I didn't mean decorating cakes period. I did mean my business....at least until I get to Biloxi....of course the humidity there will make me want to MURDER a cake I'm quite sure! HaHa. I am still going to decorate...and possibly teach others to decorate. I am mainly going to do it for fun...it just came to the fact that it wasn't fun anymore. So now I think with me doing it for fun and for friends and Family...I'll enjoy my skill so much better. And you guys are sooooooooooooooooooo awesome the way you talked about my cakes! That really made me feel good. I did my cake up tonight and I keep looking at it thinking DANG IT that is sooo cute....but I didn't put a border on it...shhhh don't tell anyone maybe they won't notice. Haha! Who am I kidding I'm talking to like a million pro's here! And by the way. I love your cakes that you guys do. I feel like mine don't even pail in comparison. But once again you guys! Thanks and I LOVE YOU!

Dont quit over someone that was obviously just trying to get out of paying for the cake!! This makes me mad cause someone tells you your work is no good and make you feel bad all because she didnt want to pay for something that she could not do her self. your work is great and i mean it. she is just a crook!

okay, hope i didnt upset anyone. I feel better now. icon_smile.gif

Thank You Thank YOu thank YOu Alracntna. You are to sweet! With yesterday behind me I do feel much better. Today has been a really lovely day. I had a cake order due today took it to the couple, for their daughters first birthday. I had already told the mom that she was one of my last orders and explained to her what happened. They are friends of mine. I had so much fun doing their daughter's cake...and the best thing is the parents graditude and compliments paid for it all. They really made my day. The mom told me well are you sure you are quitting. I told her business wise for here yes...BUT I will still do my cakes for friends and family...but mostly just for fun. I also told her I do consider her and her hubby friends. She said Thank GOD! I'll be calling you in March and Again in May for another cake. They just couldn't stop going on about the flavor, design, texture, and even the hight of the baby cake. They were thourouly pleased...which is all I wanted. Best thing is I had so much fun doing their cake. Thanks alot again you guys.

See kiddo, sometimes we just need a better class of customers, as in reasonable!
Funny thing is you can get 100 good customers but forget all the good things they have said when you get that one miserable one!

My Sweet Sis always does the right thing!!! YA Tammy!! Pat yourself on the back! You already know what I would have done... LOL!!! It's hard to soar with Eagles when buzzards are all around! That woman was one of the worst buzzards!!

I just want to say how wonderful it was to read all these kind posts to Tammy! I know it meant the world to her! She was very upset when I got her phone call. I'm very proud of her for how she handled it. The crown she gets when she gets to heaven will be full of precious jewels!!

Ya'll are sooo kind!!

I live in north Mississippi and I know people will love your cakes in Biloxi. I, too, have recently started telling people that I'm not doing cakes anymore because it got to be more stress than enjoyment. I'm going to slack off for a little bit and maybe just do friends' cakes. I read my husband your story and he had a choice title for the woman. The cake you gave her was beautiful, and I would definitely want it for my little girl.

Sounds like this woman just wanted a free cake. You could have handed her solid gold on a platter and she'd complain it was too heavy.

As long as the birthday girl was happy, you should walk away satisfied. Part of the problem with all these "domestic goddess cooking shows" is that people think skills like ours can be picked up after a few hours study. She obviously has no idea how much time and energy goes into your cakes. I certainly wouldn't bake for her again.

By the way, I liked both cakes!

Tammy,
I am so sorry that this lady was so awful to you. I just looked at your cakes and they are beautiful. I haven't been doing this long and I have noticed people and seen looks and realized that no one can please everyone. This lady obviously cannot be pleased no matter what.
Everyone here has said it more then once your two cakes are beautiful and so are your other cakes. Take it from your friends at CC they are telling you the truth. You have a talent don't let go.

Keep smilling king.gif and baking! icon_biggrin.gif

you should tell every baker in town about her and create a blacklist. Let's just see how well she does when she has to make her own cakes cause no one else will. Hahahaha

Just read all these post and this is such a great site and support team. The little girl liked it and that is the most important. That had to make your heart feel good.

I understand the stress factor. I use to feel that way about photography especially for weddings. One chance to get it right. Because of that I have not done a wedding cake yet! Give me any other holiday or occassion but no weddings. Creates to much stress for me and I do this for MY enjoyment!

I live in Slidell, LA! So we will be neighbors, sort of..... icon_rolleyes.gif

Good Luck on the move!
