I'll definitely be there to look and I'm really looking forward to it. I don't think I have time to prepare an entry this year. I'll have to plan better next year!

siahsammi- you can use dummies as long as they are in a shape that can be duplicated with cake. Go to the website and check out the details.

Since all of you must be close to the San Diego area, are any of you familiar with commercial kitchen space for rent here? I am trying to get off the ground with my business, but have had no luck finding a licensed kitchen to work in that is semi-close to home.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

to TheCookieCuttery: What part of San Diego are you in? I believe there's a coffee shop that just went out of business; it may be avail to rent on a temp basis, or by the hour, until it's fully rented; I'm not sure what's in the kitchen. Krispy Kream donuts just shut down, too. The Waffle House serves breakfast/lunch, then closes at 2pm. Maybe they would rent space?? All of these are in the El Cajon area.

Thanks for the tips lsawyer. I am actually in north county in the Carmel Mountain/Sabre Springs area. Because I want to start out with my cookies part time I want something closer to home so it's more convenient. I might not have the luxury of being that spoiled though!

I was, I'm ashamed to say. I didn't do very well. But I saw your project. Your practice piping looked great. Did you finish your practice motif?

How did you know it was me????
I'm ashamed to say that I did not finish my homework. So typical for a teacher, right?? I have not had a free moment all week, and I don't expect a free moment until Sunday. I hope to work on it then. I can't attend Class 2 (out of town) but I hope to attend 3 and 4.

I so wish I could go, but it's birthday weekend for my mom. She doesn't get a day, she gets the weekend! Maybe next year, is it always in March or do they change it around?

Always the same weekend, unless of course that coincides with Easter. Used to be the weekend of St Paddy's day, but they moved it because of mid year for ICES.

Hi all, I'm done with my first entry and working on my second. I drove my entry down from Washington and it did just perfectly. My sister talked me into doing another entry!!!!

I can't wait for the show. I get nervous every year.

I remember the feeling! It's nice now just to enjoy the show without the nerves. But I miss actually making the cakes, it's the only time you really stretch yourself and do what you want!

So how did it turn out? Remember, you have to bring it in on Friday! Also, did you register for 2 cakes? That deadline is past now icon_surprised.gif

Don't forget to stop and say hi to me!

Hey Tami- Yes, my sister turned in both my forms with hers at the last meeting.

I'm satisfied with my cake. Not a perfectionist but pretty good I think for an amateur.

Well, my cake is done, and I'm still working on my cookies. Have a 400 mile drive, but at least I'm not coming down from Washington, althought thought about doing the shows up there and in Oregon. Anyone interested in meeting at the show Saturday morning?

Thank goodness I'm not entering cookies again this year. Yours are beautiful!! I've already taken 1st in that non-cake category. Time to move on up!!

Is this your first year? This is my fourth year. Last year I said I would never enter again. Yeah right!!
icon_confused.gificon_rolleyes.gif

Can't wait to see your entry. BTW, Washington's next show will be the end of April in Ellensburg.

Did you enter the spring basket last year? I entered the Orchids (won 3rd) and the Jesters. Did you enter the blue cake with the Austrailan lace? I loved that cake.

I'm going . . . but since I work graveyard shifts all weekend I can only make it to check out the entires. icon_cry.gif

My BF and I are going to head down to SD Sunday morning right after work . . . hopefully I won't spend all day drooling over cakes so I can get some sleep in the afternoon.

Good luck to everyone who entered!

Yeah, I entered the Spring basket. Pretty dissappointed how the judging in that category turned out! The judges were blind. Yes that was also my blue Australian stringwork cake!

I honestly loved your work, especially the cake. I took some pictures of it. The string work was perfect.
