Try a bit of pink and add a touch of violet.

I am thinking a little bit of wilton rose with wilton violet should get you close. Try a small amount of icing first...you do not want to mess up a whole batch if you do not like the shade.

If you do not have rose...I would just use the violet and make it really purple! icon_smile.gif

What colors do you have? I used violet and went heavy with it to get a darker purple. Boy, was that frosting bitter! icon_surprised.gif Luckily, it was a bottom border so when I cut the cake for my daughter's class, I purposely scooped a little high and removed the border as I place the cake on plates.

I have violet, rose, red(no taste), christmas red, royal blue, black, and many others but no burgandy. So far I have tried mixing the above colors differently with no success. The color I'm looking for is more of a light eggplant color.

Here is a link from sugarcraft that tells how to mix the colors. It is very helpful. Print it out and keep it in a safe place.

That is awesome. Thank you all so much. I printed both of them off, and hopefully I can get something to come through with it. If not, I'm going to Kroger to buy a cake kit.

Burgundy?
well here's how I make burgundy at work (uses bakerycraft colorgels) red, a couple drops of green (yes green it's the opposite of red on the color wheel) and a touch of royal blue. I never, ever eve add black to a color to make it darker. That's becuase black will suck light into it and anything you add black too will not be vibrant it gets all muddy. Same with making gold colored bc. I use egg yellow and violet. Lots of yellow and just a coupla drops of violet.
We have a lot of call for these colors as they are the local high school colors.
But yes, Wilton does have a "burgundy". You can get that at the local wallymart.

Amazing the things we learn here! Thanks chaptlps for the color advice.... not my thread but I need to make gold BC today. I woulda never known..I have tried b4 to add a drop of black to colors and had terrible results but it is the color most would go for to darken something!

i agree kay,
most people go for black to darken color. but all black does is "deaden" it. So eggplant purple hmmm. let's see here..... of course violet would be the base color, then I would add a smidge of yellow to take it down and depending on if you want a warm purple (yellow/red undertones) or a cool purple (blue undertones) I would add either a couple drops red to warm it or a couple drops of royal blue to cool it. Need lots and lots of basecolor though to get it dark.I think Barney is a cool eggplant color so I would add a couple drops of blue to the violet/yellow mix. Just remember though that when colors oxidise in bc they darken but do the opposite in fondant and royal icinng.
