Hello eveyrone-

For those who set up wedding cakes at the venue - do you decorate the table the cake is placed on? If so, do you charge? Do you ask the bride how she wants the table decorated? I have done two cakes for weddings-both were friends so I did decorate the table at no charge. From your experience, is it common for a bride to ask the cake table be decorated?

As for myself, The cake table has always been set up and ready for the cake. Thats part of the reception decor.

I've never had a bride ask me to tablescape her cake table. I personally probably wouldn't because I generally have so much going on that I wouldn't have the time to do it.

Whoever's providing the linens usually does it, IME.

The only thing I would consider is greenery around the base of the cake. The rest is up to the bride.

I still haven't done a wedding cake but my instructor said that she always decorates the table. She just will put some tule curled around the cake and sometimes scatter flower pettles. She said that it just adds that bit extra of a touch. What better place to advertise that you do cakes than at a wedding? Just add it into your price if that's what's bothering you. You want it to look great don't you?

I'll do whatever it takes to make my cake look wonderful! Tulle...candles....glass bricks...white lights.....etc. etc. etc. There are lot's of potential customers at weddings! Onece you've stockpiled some general wedding "stuff".....consider it part of your equipment. Make smart purchases and it's just advertising for you.

I always do it as part of the cake set-up, and unless it is something really off the wall, I wouldn't charge any extra. It only takes a couple of seconds to scatter petals or light a bunch of votives, etc.!

I agree, there's so many beautiful ways to set up the table and it only serves to highlight your cake.
I think it would be neat to have a seperate gallery for table set up and presentation on here!

I never have, but my instructor told me that the bride will expect you too, so I think she always did decorate the table. I'd discuss it with each client and if it's something they are interested in be sure to factor that into the price. I'd just be sure that if you don't plan on doing it that the bride knows this so she's not expecting it. : )
