I just can't keep my mouth shut today!! I keep asking questions. LOL

Anyway, my question's this time is:

- How do you think the rose cookies in the picture were decorated? I mean did they outline in black first, or do you think they painted the rose red first and then outlined in black icing?

- Also, how do they color the icing (paste colors or food coloring)?

- How do you make your own cookie cutter templete? Do you draw it on paper, cut it out and then lay it on your dough while you take a sharp knife to cut around it? Do you use something sturdier (like maybe a rice crispy treat) that you make the templete out of?

This is a cookie bouquet from Cookies by Design. More than likely they would have A cookie cutter for this shape seeing that they mass produce the orders.

I make my cookie templates out of paper most of the time but of course you can use something a bit sturdier like card board.

Simply cut the shape out from either cardboard or paper and lay it on top of the dough. Using a sharp knife in a vertical position cut the shape out. The trick to this is to freeze the dough after it has been rolled out to the desired thickness. This makes the dough easier to handle and it will also reduce the amount of speading.

The Cookie in the pic is outlined and then flooded using royal icing.

Go to Walmart or Michael's and get several of the inexpensive thin, tin cookie cutters. Keep them on hand and when you need a special cutter, they are easy to reshape to the design you want. I will make a template on cardboard the shape cutter around template. I've done that with several--one example is in my photos--the pansy cookies. HTH--Pam
