Hi Everyone! Does any one know of a good website where I can download free avatars, of cause I would scan for viruses before downloading any particular ones, cause you just do not want to take any chances. And once I download an avatar, where do I go from there, do I upload it? and then, what would be the next step? Cause I am new to this. icon_smile.gif I have Pro Shop Paint 8 and 9 and don't even know how to use it. They were gifts and I am trying to figure things how to use them. They have tuitorials, but they are so long and so involved; maybe I might be better off taking a class on the PSP. icon_redface.gif

Try doing a search on Avatars here in the forums I know Lisa posted a lot of her favorite websites to go to and you can find many there.

If you want to use an animated gif, here's a few to get you started. You can also search google for avatars or animated gifs.

Resize animated gifs here (need below 6K and smaller than 110x110)

To save a pic you find on the web, right click on it and choose Save As.

After you have edited your image, upload it in your avatar upload box in your profile.

Hi mOuse! Thank you so much, I'll check them out and let you know how I made out. By the while, I made a two layer chocolate cake last week and crumb cake the layers with first coating and stuck the cake in freezer and took cake out of freezer on Monday and on Tuesday I put second coating on it and waited 5 minutes before towel patting it and then did the borders base and top and did the writting on top of cake. It turned out nice, just got to continue to practice on my writting cause the wording comes out a little wiggley. I did take a picture with my 35 mm camera not digital though and I can't get the cd made cause I have other pictures I took, which are not related to any of my projects. I am going to have to get a disposable digital camera so I can take pictures of all my projects have a cd made this way, I can share the pictures with everyone on the forum. I have seen so many nice pictures of cakes and designs from the forum and I love them. Great job by all. Thanks again mOuse and you have a nice day.

You're welcome 2cakes. It sounds like you have a full day planned. I look forward to seeing some of your pics. I know you're concerned about viruses when downloading so I wanted to assure you that I didn't have any problems with the sites I listed. Just browsing the internet can also catch you a virus or an unauthorized download. Make sure you have a good anti-virus running and also a firewall (one in addition to the windows firewall). I think all computer should have these two things. I use AVG and zonealarm. IMHO, the best there is and they're free.

LOL...before I pay for anything, I always look for a way to get it for free. I get this from my parents. My DM was 1 of 12 children and my DD was 1 of 8. Can't even imagine!

icon_cry.gif I must be dumber than I look. I usually consider myself pretty computer literate, but I don't understand the avitar thing. I can upload and download and cut and paste, but I can't do this. Could someone help me along? Just point me in the right direction. I went to the sites, I browsed. Everything is too big. I don't understand!! It must have been the bug I had last week. I was off this site for 5 days in a row! (miracle I survived). Only my fever could keep me away. LOL

Thanks for the help to anyone who can. Not asking for someone to do it for me, but I do need a little nudge! I want to find something fitting of me like all y'all did. (Sorry for that little Texas word in there. icon_smile.gif )

Thanks in advance to whoever comes to the rescue!
~Jennifer~

It's okay, y'all is a TN word too thumbs_up.gif . When you find an animated gif you like save it to your computer or get the URL by right clicking and looking at the properties then upload it at gifworks.

http://www.gifworks.com/cgi-bin/gifworks.pl?com=transfer_open

Here you can resize it. Not all gifs will work. Some are just too big and can't get down to 6K. Anything under 25K will usually work. Now you can smart crop, crop, resize, despeckle and reduce color until you get it below 6K and smaller than 110x110. You may not have to do all those things but those are the things which will get it smaller. When you're done save it to your computer and upload it here. Hope that's the little nudge you needed icon_smile.gif

Hi Lisa! Thanks for the antivirsus web sites. I had AVG for a short time, until I went out and purchased McAfee Internet Security Suite 2005 version 7.0, so far it has been working pretty good and I have microsoft antispyware and also AD-Aware SE Personal, which are free and very reliable. AVG works pretty good, the reason I needed to purchase the newer verison, cause my security suite had experied and I could not get updates for my computer, which is important to get. I'll try to download zonelabs. Usually, I get some spywares and then I have to run a scan to correct some of the gliches, but for the most part, it has not given me any major problems. Lisa, once I save the aviator, how do I get it to appear on the forum upper left hand corner? I found one that I liked. Well, my day was pretty busy. The cheesecake and almond sour cream pound cakes are done, I just did not have enough time to plant the pansies, oh well can't do it all in one day, just got to wait till another day. I was a little disappointed with my cheesecake, cause I have done this recipe so many times, the only different that I did this time was that I bought a new springform pan for King Arthur Catalog and used it and I used the no frill cream cheese instead of the Philadelphia Cream Cheese. The cheesecake, sank downward instead of standing higher in pan after baking time was over. The texture was quite different this time than when I made it with Philadelphia Cream Cheese and use the other springform pan, which created lots of moisture at bottom of pan after putting the older springform pan in a larger pan and filling it half way with water. Where on the other hand the newer springform pan did not give me alot of moisture, it gave me a little, but not significant amount, plus I think that I left the CC in the oven too long. I should have shorten the time of baking, cause I forgot that on the direction said that to bake it for lessor time than what the recipe calls for. Some body had stopped by to visit and so easy to loose focus when conversations take place and before you know it, oops, I forgot that I had something in the oven. The CC is for a friend, which she will be picking it up tomorrow and I'll have to explain and let her take it, but give her a rain check for another CC (cheesecake). I just hope that it taste alright, she will call me and let me know. Have a nice day and once again, Lisa, thanks so much for your help. icon_smile.gif

Sorry to hear about your CC...tomorrow is another day icon_smile.gif I hope the weather is nice for your pansy planting.

To get your avatar in the box you would go into your info (My Info link to the left of your screen) and at the bottom of the page is a place to upload your avatar. Can't miss it! Let me know if you need any other help.

I used to use a McAfee bundle...it came free with my computer. The bundle included a firewall. Does yours? If it does, you won't need zonealarm.

I use Spybot also. It will eliminate any spyware from your comp and immunize it from getting anymore.

Hi Lisa! Yes, I have firewall protection, hackers blocker, pop-ups blocked. I will check out the avatar information probably later on in the day, cause my computer is running an automatic scan and I don't want my computer to crazy on me, but I'll let you know if I run into any problems. There is one already out there, which mistakenly I uploaded, but can change once I find the one that I really want in place of the blue cake. Thanks again for your help. Have a nice one.

we have the same security as the government base here...McAfee its great! The base gave copies out to those who use their computer for work...usually superintendents and such, and we have some firewall as well. Our last computer got a virus and we gave up on it...bought this one so hubby is very worried about those things...he doesnt let the kids play or use the computer just in case...he didnt really like the idea of me on here, but he has gotten over that....but he's definately against online games....I don't do them anymore...all my time is spent on cleaning or on cakecentral... in fact my husband noticed last night when I showed him how I made three webpages yesterday that the one for our home had cakecentral on when I took the picture of the desk...I told him I keep it up all day, and look at it everytime I pass when I am doing something else...he now knows I am addicted~!
