Prepare it as you do your cake pan (so it won't stick, of course!) and place it in the middle of the pan so the nail point is facing the ceiling. Pour in the batter, bake, flip it out to cool and take it out. Easy as can be--and it works, which really surprised me.

Spray the flower nail just like you do the cake pan ( I use baker's joy) & then lay the nail in the bottom of the pan with the spike part sticking up. The pour in your batter. I have found if I circle the nail with my batter, I dont have to hold it in place to prevent sliding. When you flip your cake out onto the cooling rack, the nail can be simply lifted out this way.

What you do is: First you grease your pan (however you choose to do it), then you grease your flower nail. Then you place the nail flat side down in the pan. pour your batter in and there you have it! it works like a charm every time. Good luck! Hope this helps some!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention what everyone else mentioned which was how to take it out but everyone explained it well.

I think it just helps evenly distribute the heat.

It works great too. I even use it for smaller cakes (thanks stephanie214)!

Does this work better than using a heating core. I am going to make a 14x3 inch round and I thought about using heating cores but Im not sure!

Hi and welcome to CC shilohl!! You will love it here!

I have never used Wilton heater core because I found out about this trick. For a 14 in you might use two flower nails. I think some prefer the nail because it doesn't take out a chunk of cake which I understand the core does.
