icon_biggrin.gif I Have Been Asked To Design A Wedding Cake With A Beach Theme, And It Has to Feed 75 People. This is my first attempt at a wedding cake. I have only been doing cakes since last april. Does anyone have any suggestion on what is best to use as design and frostings. I thought about the rolled buttercream but I tried that and it won't cover the cake like fondant, It just tears. any suggestion on designs and or material would be appreciative

Thanks In Advance

I've seen some beautiful wedding cakes covered in chocolate shells posted on this board. You should look at them and get your inspiration from them.

As far as the fondant goes, I don't care for working with it so I won't do it unless I ABSOLUTELY have to. It may look nice, but I do prefer the BC over fondant.

What about incorporating some of the beautiful flowers we see in Hawaii or Australia like the huge HIBISCUS or FRANGIPANI... very beachy and pretty

I'm with debsuewoo--spare the fondant! Use a buttercream and smooth it with Viva paper towels, it will look fantastic.

In the gallery section do a search for beach themed wedding cakes--it's a lovely theme! I think you can use crushed nilla wafer cookies for sand.

Here is another fun cake that i've had saved on my pc for ages. I dunno who made it, but it has a barbie doll and a ken doll. The base of the cake is airbrushed. Seems easy enough to do, and really fun.

Make sure you also read up on proper techniques for stacking cakes. We don't want your beautiful creation to fall or crush under its own weight-toooo much work for that to happen!!! There are lots and lots of posts on this topic in the forums!
