Hi
I'm using the No fail recipe and would like to know something. Once the cookies are baked and iced and baged, for how long will they stay fresh?

I think that I have tried one that was two or three weeks old, and I could tell that it was not fresh, but I can't remember if it was bagged or just sitting on a plate covered with foil. I think that they are still fine at about a week old, because I tend to start baking mine several days ahead of time. Wish I could be more help.
I couldn't find bags for mine to fit in, so I wrapped them in plastic and added a little piece of tape to the back and then tied the bottom with ribbon and they stayed fresh for a week. Of course at that point they were eaten up. But definitely a week. I used the same recipe.
I like them up to 4 days old if they are unwrapped...and up to 10 days old if you wrap them well after the icing is dry.
Because they have butter, it goes "off" and smells funky/rancid after 5-6 days otherwise.
I make mine with margarine versus butter - yes I am probably committing a bakers sin or something - but this keeps them fresher longer. And I prefer the taste. Plus people that usually don't like sugar cookies like mine, I think it's the margarine substitute.
I've had my sugar cookies eaten weeks later - and although not fresh, still taste good. I have friends that prolong eating their cookie 'art' boquets. Some never eat them. Just keep them on display. I have one set of the cookies I made for my daughter's first bday - they have not changed color, and she'll be five in March. They are wrapped in plastic and placed in a small plastic Easter basket I've kept in her 'baby box'.
Now I love butter, but started the margarine thing in my cookies when shipping to friends and family in the military overseas. I figured with shipping time it was best to play it safe. We all do that here at work for shipping cookies to the guys over there.
I'm down in Hollywood Florida for the winter and I found wonderful bags for my cookies at a dollar store.. 30 bags for $1.00 and they had lots to choose from.. I got some with flowers on them and some with hearts for Valentine cookies.. I really stocked up.. They are quite roomy celo bags , I was thrilled with my find.

Hi kiddo,
Mudpie and I were wondering where the heck you were, haven't seen you around much lately. So you are a snowbird, are you? Hope you are having a grand time!

The peak freshness for most cookies is about 3-4 days. After that the flavor starts to decline. There are some cookie however that improve with time as the flavors have more time to develop and mellow out.
