What, exactly, are cupcake cakes? I assume they're cupcakes with some kind of top covering them all, but can't figure out how it's done!

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a couple of links for making them:

They're actually quite easy. Just bake the desired amount of cupcakes. I used my large Pampered Chef cookie scoop so the cupcakes were uniform and relatively flat (no doming). I played with different shapes and settled on a basically rectangler shape. Then you just frost with BC and decorate as usual.

Some people prefer to glue the cupcakes to the board with BC. I didn't have any problem with mine moving. You use a little thicker BC so it doesn't fall b/w the cracks of the cupcakes.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your helpfulness but I couldn't get your links to work.

If you could repost them, it would be greatly appreciated.

I to have been making a ton of Cupcake Cakes. Since my first one I've been hooked and they have taken off with the people I've been making them for... Sometimes I find myself wishing for a sheet cake.. But I have to admit that the CCC are so easy and simple.

I started out putting the icing on the bottoms of the outer cupcakes but now I don't have to put any on the bottoms at all. I wish you lots of luck making these. I'm sure you will be hooked !!

I just made one for my son's class and the class and teacher loved it! Everyone gets the same size piece, no need for a knife and plates, a napkin or two and everyone is set... I think they are perfect for parties and school events... You still get to make your decoration and have the ease of cupcakes.

I"ll be making more, for sure!
