So I went to the grocery store this morning to have some balloons blown up for my DS birthday party today. While standing there watching the girl blow up the balloons and tie on the ribbons, we got to talking. She was asking what kind of party it was...I told her a Star Wars party. Then she asked if we were having a Darth Vader or Yoda cake...I said neither - we're having an R2D2 cake. She asked if I had the cake done at their bakery, too...I had to stifle a laugh as I said...'No, it's a 3D cake & no grocery store bakeries around here do 3D cakes. But I do all my own cakes anyway...in fact I have a small cake decorating business." She got all excited on me....lol.
Well - it turned out that her mother is the manager of the floral dept. (where they do the balloons) and also helps out managing the bakery as a fill-in manager, sort of. So I ran off to another aisle for a minute to grab something I'd forgotten & when I returned to pick up the balloons her mother starts asking me if I was the 'person who does cakes' that her daughter was talking to. Long story short - she ordered a cake from me for her DS bday in February....and then she asked me if I'd like to leave her some business cards. ???!!!! I was stumped...lol. This lady works at a grocery store as a dept. manager...and is partially over the BAKERY!!! HA! And she's asking ME for business cards??? rofl I asked if that was against store policy or something...to send people elsewhere for cakes when they have a bakery that wants to sell THEIR cakes...? She said no - that frequently they have people come in asking for things that they can't or won't do with a cake & they like to have someone to REFER them to!!!!! She told me they only had the name of 2 other decorators in the area, but that they were older women who don't do very much business anymore and often turn down referrals. again... I was so shocked...even had to tell myself to close my mouth!!
The lesson I learned??? After all of that - I didn't have any business cards on me!!!!!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!! The lady at the store told me to please bring her some on Monday and to bring plenty! As soon as I got home tonight, I put cards in my purse, my wallet, my everyday jacket pocket, my car, my husband's wallet, daughter's diaper bag - every place I could possibly think of. I have now adpoted that old American Express or Visa (?) slogan....
"NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!!!"
Congratulations! I'm very happy for you. I hope you will do lots and lots of business.

Hooray! Talk about great timing!
I had to laugh at adding business cards into the diaper bag--I could just see myself having the cards at the very bottom so I would be taking out diapers, wipes, pacifiers, etc...to get to the cards. Lovely impression I would have made!
Very exciting--keep us posted when those recommendations start rolling in!
