I have my first wedding cake order and the bride wants a square, 4 tiered cake that will feed 200 and most importantly has a pearl sheen. She showed me a picture out of a brides magazine and I'm under the impression that it's luster dust. I have messed around with it with buttercream flowers, but I've never painted a large area with it. Is it easier to paint onto white fodant and if so, how exactly do I go about it. I had read to use lemon extract? Any advice will be much appreciated!

I've used lemon extract with good results. Some people use vodka. Using alcohol as the liquid results in quick evaporation and keeps the fondant from getting soggy.

Here's a wedding cake I did: the floral design and bow are painted with pearl dust.

If you use vodka , can you taste it?

No Vodka evaporates there is no taste left behind.

Thank you so much. I am about to use it, but was worried about a taste being left behind.
