Cake Decorating Magazines

Hey all, what are some great cake decorating magazines to subscribe to? I saw someone else mention it and it never occurred to me in the few months I've been decorating to subscribe to magazines. Can you tell me any of your favorites please? icon_wink.gif

I subscribe to American Cake Decorating. I look forward to getting it every couple months. I do wish it had more cakes in it though. It's really light for the pricetag $4-5/issue. Mailbox News is another good one. I have some back issues and I've been meaning to subscribe.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Mailbox News. The issues I do have show more cakes.

Hi there! I had gotten a few back issues of Cake Decorating Magazine from eBay, and then subscribed and have just gotten my first issue.
I must admit that I am disappointed, I wanted more cakes and less advertising...seems like all the magazines are like that though!

Thanks for the tip on the Mailbox News, have not tried that one. I just like looking at the pictures and getting instructions, good ideas, etc. The Wilton books, though not subscription, are good but annoy me that so much is advertising for their own products. I resent paying their high dollar price and about half of it is their catalog!

How often does Mailbox News come out? If I subscribe to a cake decorating magazine I want it to be worth my time and money.

I thought that I saw that American cake decorating was available on newstands. Does anyone know if that's true? I went into Barnes & Nobles last night and didn't see it.

You can pick up ACD and MBN at some cake stores. I've never seen them anywhere else.

MBN only comes out every couple months also. MBN has more pictures of cakes that people send in. I haven't been real happy with it since ACD took it over but it is full of ideas. ACD has a lot of advertisements but it also has tutorials and more professional photos. I subscribe to both of the. Here Comes the Cake is another publication that i'd love to see but it's too rich for my pocket book! I'd hate to spend that much and not like it once I got it. Has anyone gotten this? I'd like to know how you like it.

I've never seen Amercian Cake Decorating in newstands. I've checked Barnes and Noble and other book stores and no one carries it. icon_cry.gif

I didn't know there was another magazine called "Here Comes the Cake". Where did you find this one. I did a broad search on yahoo looking for cake decorating magazines and this one never came up.

Here are links to a few publications including Here Comes the Cake. Some of them are quite expensive! Too bad we don't live closer ~ we could start a library!

i just received 5 old wilton books from ebay. they're from the 70's. they have sooo much ideas in them, especially the two wedding books i got!!!

I've recently purchased some old Wilton books on e-bay. The are from the 60's I think. Just general cake decorating information. I was amazed to see how much was in there on molding and gumpaste. They also had the slanted top cake (topsy turvey) and a couple other cakes that are known now by being others inventions!

Wow! I don't think I have any that old. When it comes to getting credit for inventions...he with the most publicity wins. On an early mornig show recently, Collette Peters took credit for making the first topsy turvey cake in the 80's. She may not have invented the idea but boy did she ever perfect it!
