I just had to share. I did a cake for a twelve year old boy who had very specific wants for his cake. He wanted a chocolate cake, chocolate and peanut butter filling with half chocolate icing/and peanut butter icing on the outside. Oh and it had to be a wrestling theme. This was my first cake with two different kinds of frosting. Reluctantly I agreed to do it.
So I started to decorate it and completely forgot the filling so he ended up getting a much bigger cake than originally planned. So anyhow I finally finished it and all in all I was happy with it.I got the idea from another cc member and I can't remember who it was but I Gave thanks in my pictures.
Long story short I deliverd the cake today and the dad was extremely happy with it. So I am shopping and I get a call from the little boy telling me how much he loved his cake. His friends were so jealous and was going to tell their moms to get me to do thier cakes (yay me).
I always get compliments from the parents but for the little boy to call me on his own was priceless. I did ask his mom if she made him call me and she said absolutely not. That made my day!
I just wanted to share....

kudos to his parents !! Restores my faith that there are parents out there teaching their children to be appreciative of what people do for you in life!!!

Great Story!!!

THere's another thread running about lack of manners in "the kids today". This is a great boost to our optimism! Congrats to his mom for doing a great job raising him proper!

I'm glad the boy called you to let you know his appreciation. I was searching for the other thread referenced about the lack of manners in children, couldn't find it, so here goes.

On the side of well behaved kids... there is one little boy who NEVER enters my home without first saying, "you have a lovely home, Mrs. C" or "Thank you for allowing me to visit today Mrs. C", it never fails and I want to just pinch his cheeks. A six year old, approaches me every afternoon at carpool to comment on the beautiful day. AFter picking up my son from school, the first thing out of his mouth is "how was your day?" After passing on hand-me-downs, the child called me within an hour to gush about her new "treasure", saying the bag of used clothes were "delightful". My oldest is often the target of bullies. Without being prompted by the school, a cluster of kids have formed a sort of protective circle around my son so that when they think he is being targeted, they tell or they handle the situation. I don't know these children or their parents, just that an administrator noticed this and asked the kids.

On the other hand... I insist that my sons open doors for ladies. It's habit, they don't even think about it (ages 11 and eight). You would not believe the number of GROWN women who either treat them like bell hops or fail to say thank you. One woman was quite snotty to my oldest saying she could get her own door. Well you know, that's fine if you're a 65 year old bra burner, I get that. What I don't get is being rude to a kid about it. He asked why he should bother if people don't appreciate the effort. I have to remind him that not every seed takes root immediately, but it will usually still take root. I just hope that when you do see a child with good manners, you make sure to use manners of your own to encourage the behavior to continue.

Sorry its long and I hijacked the thread, just couldn't help it. icon_wink.gif
