Where I live if I want to buy cake decorating supplies I only have Michaels to go to. The other weekend my DH took me shopping in a bigger city and so of course we went to a place that sells cake decorating supplies and their luster dust cost $12! I couldn't believe it! This is expensive isn't it, it's just a tiny little bottle.
I Pay $4.50 for a little container about the size of a lip gloss . I think thats about average
That is quite expensive!!! Even here in Canada I have paid about $5 max for the dusts. Order on-line, I'm sure you will get a much better deal...plus you could order some other cake 'necessities' at the same time!
I actually live in Canada as well, I think that I will be ordering this on-line from now on.
I'm not sure how it works with having to pay duty, but Pfeil and Holing at http://www.cakedeco.com has pearl dust for $2.25 USD (which is about 2.63 CAD) for the two gram little container. Golda's kitchen in Canada has it for 5.00 CAD (which is about 4.27 USD). It doesn't weigh much to ship, but you'd have to figure shipping and customs fees to figure out which is better for you.....

Devonee,
$12 for luster dust is way to expensive. I live in Canada also and I order from www.goldaskitchen.com , I have order many things from there and the shipping is less there then for me to go into town to get the stuff and I only live 20 minutes away. It's great the shipment comes right to your door.
I just looked at a bottle of pearl dust that I bought about 6 months ago, at my cake supply store and I paid $2.95 for it. I guess I won't complain after seeing what you have all paid. It is also in a small jar about the size of a lip gloss.

I usually get mine from Golda's too but locally here in Ottawa, I have paid as much as $8.50 for a bottle, which, haha, if I only need one and it is an emergency, is worth the extra few dollars, works out around the same with shipping costs. But keep in mind, some dusts are more expensive, like a 24K gold lustre dust. What size is your container, does it say ounces on it?

It actually doesn't say how much is in it but the container is about the size of a thing of carmex. I think from now on I will be ordering it online.
I get mine for $1.98 directly from the people that make them..That's why I buy by the dozen ...no kidding !!!
They are in San Leandro, CA : Linton Paper
The people at Linton Paper are very nice and very helpful and the prices are really good, (and even better if you have a business license and tax ID and can buy wholesale), but they don't make anything. They are disstributors. I just called and asked because I'm always trying to find kosher products. Unfortunately, though I buy from them regularly, they are a little difficult t work with because they don't have a website, e-mail or a catalog.
Mahal, do you live close to me? I'm in San Jose and always looking for an opportunity to meet other decorators.

Heehee, boy am I disappointed, I didn't know what Carmex was, thought maybe it was a caramel flavouring or something and went to look it up. Haha, lip balm, now I understand the size you are referring too, but did you have to tease me, haha!

sorry squirrelly, didn't mean to confuse you but you're right something carmel flavoured would have been much more exciting.

Haha, wouldn't it though? Oh gosh, hubby just picked up a bottle of CK silver lustre dust here in Ottawa for me, well two actually, $9.95 a bottle, I nearly died! Guess I will only be ordering it from Golda's from now on, so I sympathize. Only one store carries it here so we are stuck.

Holy Cow! I don't know where they get it from but that is way too expensive....unless it's gold leaf or something like that. I have a store and of course have to make a profit but good lord, that's way too much. I'm in Florida and the going rate is 3.50 give or take for a 2 gr. container. The large tub of say pearl luster is close to 100.00 bucks.
Yes, that's the same Linton Paper Supply people. They sell Baking Supplies, and that's true they are somewhat primitive, no credit card payments, just cash/check..they are very nice people though. I buy from them all the time, and when they ask you if you own a business, just say yes ! They don't ask for any number or anything like that.. They sell the cheapest Lustre Dust , as far as I know..really $1.98-2.50, where else can you find that ?

I just called to ask if they offer a catalog since theeir products are not online. The lady said yes, she would send them to me. She then asked for my license #. I told her I was in the process of getting one. She said she would send the catalogs to me but that before I could order I would need to give her my lic # or else the prices would be "waaaaaay more expensive than what is listed in the catalogs"

SquirrellyCakes...you might be onto something...Carmel-flavored Carmex?!?
Hi Mrs. Missey,
This is indeed the same company!!!! Hurray!!! I've been asking them about a website and e-mail for months and they always said they had no plans to have one!!!!! Thanks for finding it! This morning when I called them they didn't mention they had put one up! Of course, you still can't order on-line and it is a little hard to see what they carry without checking multiple links, but they are always really helpful when I call and even though I'm sure I'm a tiny account to them, they never seem to mind multiple calls or my frequently stupid questions. I'll try to send an e-mail later today. It owuld be cool to do orders that way!
I'm excited that I can now point people to them much more easily!
Hi Squirrelly,
Is that $9.95 for the same 2 gram bottle? OUCH!!!!!!

Hi kiddo,
I am afraid it is. Teach me to keep an eye on my dwindling supplies! Plus 15% tax on that.
The good news is, hubby picked it up and paid for it, haha, not me!
There is method in my madness sometimes!

I wonder if it would be cheaper to purchase from Linton with the exchange and the shipping then ordering from Golda's? I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow and see. Maybe I can order a whole bunch and then I won't run out or have to pay the crazy costs.
