I wanted to make a similar cake for a baby shower. This was originally made & posted by luvtodecorate.

I believe the pan is the oval pan that you get in your Wilton II class materials. I don't know how she did the fondant cover so perfectly - it fits perfectly to the oval shape and doesn't have any dents or anything...just wondering on some ideas on how to cut it and then dry it into the perfect shape so it fits nicely.

Couldn't you make the top piece by drying fondant or gumpaste over 1/2 of the ball pan side?

I already thought of that except the ball pan is wider while the oval shape of the cake pan is much narrower/sharper (?) like a slightly stretched "U." I've tried to cut paper to get a "template" of the shape I need but that's not working...maybe I'm not conceptualizing on paper correctly...ugh.

I did a cake kind of like this one -in my pics. I used the oval pan from the Wilton class and found a ball very close in size to it. Covered the ball in saran wrap and then a 1/4 of it with gumpaste and let it dry.

I'm not sure if I can explain this...but here goes my try!

Use the oval pan and trace about 1/3 of the bottom of the pan on a piece of paper. Now cut that out and use it as a template to cut out your rolled fondant.

Now turn the pan bottom side up on your counter. Tape the template to the side of the pan and then lay the fondant piece on top of the paper. Set this up to dry. Once its dry and you remove the paper, the new hood should fit the end of the cake.

Is that clear at all? I can see it...just not sure how to write it! icon_wink.gif
