Hi!
I was asked to do this wedding cake in July...Not sure if she wants it covered in fondant but she wants vanilla pound cake for 120 people.
How much would you charge for something like this? This is a for a co-worker and will probably give her some sort of discount to step up for more business..
Also, this is a first for me working with fresh flowers...how do you cover the stems? Do you wrap in saran wrap? Help!!
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I start at $2.00/serving for my area for basic buttercream. This cake looks like buttercream to me. I have only worked with flowers once, but they were inbetween layers so I placed them on a cake plate. I know Wilton makes flower stems you can place the flowers in so they can be inserted into the cake without contaminating the cake. I charge $25 as a base for adding fresh flowers on a cake. She will need to check with the florist to make sure that the flowers are organically grown so there are no chemicals any where near the cake.
Hope this helps.

This cake for me would be my rock bottom price. ($1.25/serving) It would very simple especially if the bride provides the flowers. A great cake to start your wedding experience with! Get the stem holder thingies and you're all set!

I agree that it looks like buttercream. And when I did the wedding cake I made last year I used the stem inserts from Wilton and they worked great. If they are standing straight up you can fill them with water to keep the flower fresh or otherwise just use them empty to protect the cake from the stem. I charge $2.00 per serving for my buttercream cakes too but I get the flowers from the bride's florist and have it added to her flower bill. Also, that way the flowers are a match to what she has for her arrangements.Good luck and I can't wait to see how it turns out.
