can anyone tell me how to carve a cake. Is there something you have to do to the cake before you carve it. I am a newbie so this is all new to me. Thank you .Poppie icon_redface.gif

what kind of cake did you want to carve? Just keep in mind that when you cut a cake to carve it, there will be more crumbs, so you will need to crumb coat.

Definitely freeze it first. Have you tried a search for carved cake?

Use a more dense cake mix or cake. Also, like the others said, freeze it - this makes less crumbs, and easier to carve.

SquirrellyCakes advised me to fill and frost the cake AFTER I carved it. That way there would be less filling wasted. Also, if you fill the cake first, then cut, chances are you will carve away the dam that holds the filling in.
