Your Favorite Cake?

Hi,

Recently a family friend was involved in an accident where a dumptruck ran into a restaurant at 80 MPH. She has been in a coma ever since (it happened several weeks ago). She and her husband are both self-employed, so their church is having a fundraiser/dinner for them on Saturday.

I have agreed to provide around a dozen cakes. This is a time when I can try some different cakes. I'm usually so consumed with the decorating that I don't experiment with different cakes, fillings, icing, etc.

They will be cut up and sold by the slice with the dinner plates.

SO...my question for you all is...what are your favorite cakes, icings, fillings -- any suggestions?

My personal favorites also happen to be my most requested (and easiest to make) At least IMO icon_smile.gif

Chocolate Cake with Raspberry
Chocolate Cake with Bavarian Creme
White cake with Lemon

i would do boston cream and ding dong cakes if it were me, they're simple, no real decoration to make them time consuming, and they're both really yummy! i'm sure you can figure out the boston (white round w/ vanilla pudding in the middle and choc icing on top) and the ding dong's are super easy too (choc round w/ whip cream icing in the center and choc icing on top). i make these for cake walks and bake sales and they're always a big hit! for a fun variation for little kids i've used oreo's for eyes, put cheap $1 store sunglasses over them and drawn a smiley face ... kids love em!!!!! thumbs_up.gif hope this gives you a couple ideas and good luck!

Thank you both for the great ideas. I'm getting ready to make my selections and will go grocery shopping tonight! You have given me lots to choose from!
