what do I put to the top of my cake

First, sorry my bad english (I'm from Finland, europe).

I am new in this site and I have only done one cake (ladybug, covered with marzipan). In Finland 99% of cakes are covered with cream (which is mixed to be foam...how do you say...whipped??). I have looked your very nice cakes and would like to try something new for the top of the cake. MMF sounds good, but what is easy fondant (?) to put with tip. I know royal icing, but it sounds very sweet and hard.

When I made my ladybug, I put some grass aroud it. It was made from sugar and butter and some milk. It was so buttertasty.

Thanks.

icon_smile.gif With Fondant, you do not use tips..It is very solid and feels like
soft clay, the kind you make into clay pots (for plants).. It is very handy and not messy, and you can make so many things out of it like flowers, ribbons etc.. try it..there is a recipe and instructions in this site.. icon_smile.gif

buttercream icing is what you would usually use a decorator tip to decorate with, it can be made stiff for some decorations or thinned for other types of decorations (like writing). hope that helps

MMF is what I'd do, if you don't want to use butter cream. No (piping) tips involved. It's easy and cheap to make, and tastes a lot better than regular fondant. BLECH! icon_eek.gif You CAN achieve a nice topping with Whipped (foamy) buttercream too, if you take time to smooth it out.

Don't worry about your English, and don't appologize for it. I guarantee your English is not only better than my Finnish,(?), but probably better than my native English.
hahaha, whatever.

..for advices and wellcoming me.

What kind of fondat is the best (except the mmf)? My friend in bakeryschool (here in Finland) have never heard about the MMF... so I HAVE to TRY it neardays.

I also would like to do something with tip. Something else tham cream (we do not put butter to it, only little sugar...do you still call it buttercream or???).

Now I need to go to sleep...get back here in morning (it's 10:50 pm here in finlad now).
