I am thinking of contacting a few to see about getting on their vendor list. I just want to know what I'm doing before that. What are your experiences with working with a planner? Do they expect a commission or discount? What are your suggestions for approaching them? I want to do reciprocal links with anyone I do business with. Other than that should I offer anything? I'm just wondering what advice is out there. Thanks!

I've teamed up with about 5 wedding co-ordinators. It's actually great! I initially met with them one-on-one and I let them taste samples and see my work. They ask lots of questions just like the brides would and let you know their fee.

To be a "preferred vendor" that they suggest to brides, I pay them between 10-15% of the entire cost of the wedding cake. It is always worth it. Couples who hire a planner will usually get pricier cakes too...or at least have larger weddings.

My friend is a co-ordinator and says that she recommends different vendors on a low/medium/high end scale...as well as home-made/traditional/modern/fantasy cake designers.

Wedding planners will often add you as a link on their site too, which is pure free advertising. If they have a great reputation, then that will help your business to grow...and vice versa!
