Stacking Review with Pillars

Hi, all

I have a request for an anniversary cake and I don't normally do traditional "pretty" cakes (I'm more in the armadillo and pizza cake family icon_biggrin.gif ), so I need some review!

I'm planning a 6" and 10" round, and she would like pillars. Do I put the 6" cake on an 8" plate or a 6" plate? Do I put the 10" on a cardboard as usual, then put it on a 12" round plate? Do I cover this with Tuk n Ruffle or leave bare? Normally I cover boards with the foil roll from the cake supply shop--I really need help with that whole dressing up the presentation bit. Finally, what size columns are best? I get the impression she would like a nice presentation (read--taller!), but I want minimal stress (read--shorter!).

Thank you so much in advance for your help. I'm planning a practice this week asap--this cake will be for Saturday.

I truly wish I could help you, but I have never done a pillar or stacked cake before! I am, however, wanting to learn. Good Luck and I will be watching this topic to learn a few things!!!

Thanks--the article did really help with the sizes!

For the bottom covering, do most of you use foil on the base?
