Hi,
This is the Golden Wedding Cake, (in my photos) that I have been planning forever. Finally it was done on the 27th of December. Hard, back-breaking work but I was so pleased with it!
Thanks all, for all the tips on stacking, cutting, serving, in the last few months.
The inspiration was a "Satin Rose Ivory Wedding Cake" from Kerry Vincent's "Romatic Wedding Cakes".
But as this was a Golden Wedding, I adapted it a bit, to introduce the gold element. Also, I do not like satin roses, so I made realistic shaded roses.
Thanks for looking,
Karen
You did an excellent job on it and should be very proud of yourself It's a very beautiful cake!
That is simply gorgeous. What a huge cake! How many servings was that? You had to be exausted after that! I can't imagine ever being able to pull off something that large or that beautiful! I tip my apron to you!!
That is an absolutely stunning cake. When I first saw it, I just thought WOW! Wonderful job....thanks for sharing it.
This design looks exactly the same as the one in Kerry VIncent's Romantic Wedding Cakes book.. That book is awesome.. but this version of it is also very pretty and gorgeous..very nice..

Yes, as she stated it's based on the design by Kerry Vincent, but I love the way she personalized it to the wedding she was creating it for by changing the color and the type of rose. It's absolutely stunning! I can imagine how overjoyed the bride must have been to have that cake sitting on her table!!! Fantastic work! My first wedding cake is for March 19th, and I can't wait for the day that I will hopefully be able to produce a cake as beautiful as this! (It will be a long while from now, though!)
Nicely put, potatocakes!! I think the cake is an absolute tribute to Kerry Vincent's cake. Be proud Karen!! Great work.
WOW and WOW!
I can't imagine how long that cake took to make. It is unbelievable! An absolutely beautiful cake! You are an inspiration!
It is beautiful and looks perfect too! Lots of work, bet they adored it, you should be very pleased with yourself! Kudos! I think it is gorgeous!

Thank you all, for taking the time to look and for your nice comments.
This was a huge cake. Completed, it weighed 48 pounds! It served 200 easily, with all the curved parts left over for the family to enjoy later. (we all love fruit-cake!). I reserved the top tier too.
I made this for my God-parents who were celebrating their Golden Wedding (50 years of marriage).
The topper was a sugar vase (castor sugar and egg-white) which I made a week earlier, and left to dry. I was a bit worried about it, but it stayed fine.
Thank you potatocakes and bulldog for your comments.
I am an amateur cake decorator, in fact the last wedding cake I made was 13 years ago!
As I stated, I was inspired by the book... In fact I bought the book, because of this particular cake. I had to adapt a lot, because of the limitations of my equipment, and my skill level!
Anyway, I am very proud of it, as are the bride and groom!
Thanks all, again,
Karen
Karen, your cake turned out wonderfully! It is absolutely gorgeous!! I bet your God Parents were so thrilled with it!!
48 pounds?!! 250 roses?!! Oh My! You really have been busy! Congratulations! It looks absolutely amazing! Be proud!!
OH MY GOODNESS....how gorgeous is this cake?? I absolutely LOVE it!! You did an incredible job. Wow, I can only imagine how much time and energy that took. EXCELLENT job! (I think I may have to call you when I get married...... )
Again, thank you all!
Izzybee, when I bought the book in Jan 2004 , I knew, that someday, I would like to make this cake. So, at the same time, I bought the Acantus leaf mould. I also bought the bead maker and the garland marker... just couldn't resist!
This cake was so easy to put together... Once the fondant was on, that is! The largest cake was 14 inches in diameter, and caused me endless problems. The fondant kept tearing. Then I decided to do it in two semi-circles, and it was fine. Managed to polish it super-smooth, with my palms dusted with corn-starch.
Unfortunately, when setting up the cake, the fondant got marked a little bit, as you can see in the picture in my photos. Tha cakes were heavy, and there was not much room to hold them. I knew this was going to happen, so I had cut the dowels 1/4 in longer than the cakes, so the cakes would float slightly, and hopefully they would be a little easier to stack and unstack... Oh Well!
Thanks all for your comments, here as well as in my photos.
Karen
