Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I received a Wilton kit for Christmas and would like to begin cake decorating as a hobby. I am registered to begin the Wilton Course I tomorrow at Michaels. I am very excited.

It is my boyfriends birthday on Sunday and I hosting a poker party night for him (he loves Poker!!). I would like to try and make a simple cake for the party---simple because I am new to all of this.

Any suggestions? What I have in mind is a sheet cake that is a giant card---ace of spades would be great since my boyfriend loves it.

I can use any help I can get! Looking forward to learning a lot from you guys in the upcoming year

Hi! Welcome to CC.. Well if you click the tab that reads galleries.. Then look for "search". Type in ace of spades.. There is one there.. I would think, look for the crusting buttercream recipe.. make that.. once you ice your cake give it a few mins to dry.. take any paper towel (recommend Viva no prints on it) and lay it on the cake.. Rub lightly with hands and it will give you a smooth cake.. get you some black fondant.. (they sell it at walmart in a combo pack of colors) and cut out your ace of spades.. outline the letter "A" with black icing.. (easy black icing) get some chocolate icing and add some black coloring. TADA there you have your ace of spades cake.. Take your time, I would work on it tomorrow.. You can bake today and keep it covered with saran wrap.. Then ice tomorrow and it will be ready for Sunday.. GOOD LUCK and please post your pic..

you could also make a hand of card (royal flush, full house, etc.) out of fondant. the easy way out on this is to buy the pre-made and pre-colored fondant that wilton sells. they have one that has four colors in a pack that includes black.

You can cut small spades, diamonds, hearts and clubs out a ready made fondant (pre colored or you can color it yourself). Decorate the the sides of the cake with these. On top, you can cut small fondant circles larger than poker tokens and stick poker tokens in it and do a heap of chocolate gold coins on a side.. You can get a deck of cards and arrange four cards like a fan in a royal flush and stick that vertically in the cake (you may need to glue the cards together).. You can cover the cake in poker-table green buttercream..
