3D car too dry- Help!!

Hi! I have just finished cooking a 3d cruiser in mud cake, the problem is it seems too dry. I had to shape it a bit and the bits I cut off are not moist.
What can I do?

I've heard of people brushing cakes with a glaze (like apricot preserves. or a sugar syrup) to keep them moist before frosting.

or you can also soak it with some type of liquid

for edible by everyone, a simple syrup (sugar dissolved in water) will do
you can flavor the syrup to complement the flavor of the cake.

for an adults only version: soak with
rum (regular, spiced or golden--my fav.: Appleton Gold)
brandy
whiskey
Bailey's Irish Creme
Kaluha (can we say mocha?)
any flavored liquere (whooo boy, the possibilities!!!!!)
flavored vodka (or plain if you insist)
anisette (not in mine ya don't! hate black licorice taste)

and totally goofy opition: Everclear...warning, you car could go up in flames w/ this stuff if the candles burn to short!

adults: just how happy do you want them to be??? icon_surprised.gificon_rolleyes.gif

no more than a 1/2 to 1 cup. you want moist, not soggy or turning to mush.

better to start w/ too little (1 tbs -- 1/4 cup) and add more if you think you need it.

just remember to let it soak in and spread throughly through the cake after each sprinkle of liquid before deciding if you need more.

Put your syrup in a spray bottle to get an even soak.

I add a little of my tres leches mixture to most cakes now, it gives it a great flavor and then its not dry... but with a car pan....I may still use it, but a very very little.
