I'm sure some of these questions have been asked before but I did a search and can't find the answers. Hopefully someone will be kind enough to help me out.

I am giving my friend a babyshower in 3 weeks. I have never decorated cookies before and I probably won't get the change to do a practice run.

What I need to know is there a time line that I should follow? What's the earliest I can make the cookies and they still be fresh? I am also doing a belly cake for her so I don't want to overload myself. Thanks!

PS I am using the NFSC recipe if that makes a difference in storing the cookies.

You can bake them, decorate them, and freeze them ahead of time. If the decorations have lots of bright color, there is slight risk of some bleeding IF there is a lot of condensation. If you take them from the freezer into a cool room, there will be much less risk.

If you use pastels, everything will be perfect. Stack them with paper inbetween the layers, or bag them individually. The put them in an airtight container or a couple of layers of foil. This protects them from other smells or tastes in the freezer. They will store fine inthefreezer for weeks.

Don't forget...you can begin prep work early to make it "flow"easier for you.

Make MMF, RI, early... (it stores a loooong time.) Go ahead and color early so it's ready to go..And, the colors become more vibrant after they sit a little.

You should also make your fondant accents for the cake early too...any tedious tasks you can think of...it really will make a difference in how everything flows together in the end.
