They were all sold on my FD wedding cake so they all want me to do the cake for this!! I'm so excited!!!! I'm sure they want a full sheet cake or even 2. The party will be an open house... that might mean I will get more cake orders!! icon_wink.gif I hope!

I think I will do a 3D firetruck on one of the cakes. Lisa posted one from a website a few weeks ago. I put it in my favorites for a special day~

Wow, I am excited for you. I think that the cake should be elegant since 20 years is a great service to the community. I am too new to have many ideas but on the side instead of ruffles or string work, I would do a firehose looking boarder, maybe a color flow or BCT of a picture of the firehouse. Maybe take 2 1/4 sheet cakes and make the number 2 and 0 out of them and place them on top of part of the cake and make them look all pretty........ I don't really know, you could go so many ways with this one. I can't wait to hear others ideas. thumbs_up.gif

Wow! That's great thumbs_up.gif Two full sheet cakes...I can't even imagine. I saw some FD cakes in the gallery recently that had firehoses as the borders and I think MrsMissey did one where the bottom border actually looked like fire. I'm thinking a big 20 with windows in it to look like buildings. You could have fire coming out some of the windows and going up the sides a little. Then put a ladder going up the 2 or the 0 with a little fireman half way up the ladder carrying a firehose and spraying water made from blue piping gel.

Here are the firehose borders I saw. danasflowers made this cake. It's in the gallery.

You know what would look really neat on one of the cakes is to do a chocolate transfer of the department's shield, and then put "Congratulations on 20 years! Let's here it for 20 more!" (ok maybe a little cheesy sounding- but some people like cheesy.)

What about having little firemen running around -looking as though they are running or possibly just standing holding the hose all lined up- around the shield picture that m0use mentions...

Tcturtleshell
Does your Fd have a logo or patch? An idea may be to place the logo in the center with the words Proudly Volunteering since 1980 continuing the tradition or something along those lines. Then add frosting appliances such as Halligan bars, axes, and SCBA to the sides. If the cake is big enough it wont look cluttered.
On a small side note the largest sheet cake I have seen was 4 sheet pans arraigned in a square. It was for the decommissioning of a Coast Guard Cutter I was stationed on, it was so large to accommodate a buoy tender pulling a buoy onto the deck. It took the cook 1 week of full 8hr days to frost it.

Tina I am surprised you need ideas for this....you have the fire department built into your brain I am sure you will do great....but I think someone suggested a bc transfer of the department seal or sign or something....and saying heres to the last 20 years and to 20 more...I do believe that is the way to go....trimming it in red and black would be very eye catching I think..... thumbs_up.gif
