Here is an article on bows:
http://www.cakecentral.com/article17-How-to-Make-a-Fondant-Loop-Bow.html
I have followed the directions in the article for making the fondant bows (I used gumpaste). They are stuck to the broom handle!! Help!
I'm so sorry you are stuck! I always wrap my broom handle with parchment so they don't stick.
I usually dust my dowels with powder sugar and then move the loops around carefully ever so often.
I put a really thin layer of shortening on 3/4" pvc pipe then lightly wipe with paper towel.
I use a little cornstarch on pvc. The thought of using a broom handle kind of icks me out (unless it's a dedicated broom handle not used for sweeping). PVC is ultra-cheap, you can buy all different diameters for your various sizes of bow loops, and you can cut your pieces to fit in your dishwasher.
I think next time I will use Mac's suggestion of Crisco, though.
I use a broom handle too - wrapped in saran wrap so it doesn't stick (and it is "dedicated" to fondant use too!)
I am SOOOOOO glad you asked this question so someone could post that link! I had someone ask me about doing a bunch of "present" cakes for a party the first week of March, and I just didn't even think about there being an easy way to make bows. I bookmarked that so I can use it when the time comes. THANKS!
