I made this bow for my uncles birthday and it was my first one. I would like to know if anyone can help with the icing in the middle. Did I just use too much or what? Any help would be appreciated!

Your bow looks good. (For the first one) I love your roses on the side. I don't understand your question about the icing in the middle. Please explain. Great looking cake. thumbs_up.gif

this isn't the best picture, but if you look at the top of the bow you can see where I stuck the pieces in the royal icing. It is just a big blob of it, i will try to find a better picture. I also was wondering how long it should take to harden?

I can't see the icing. I think it looks great for the first bow. I just made one for the first time this weekend and I used white chocolate instead of royal icing. In between layers I put is in the freezer to harden the chocolate.

From the picture, I can't see any frosting by the bow. Otherwise your cake looks beautiful. The fondant will take a few days to dry depending on the thickness.

I can't see any problems either, nice bow and cake, the roses and all are so pretty too!
You can use melted candy melts instead or royal icing for the "blob", just thought I would mention that.
Did you use a hardening agent such as "Gum-tex" added to your fondant? Some fondants, like Wilton, already have some hardening agent added, but I still add about 2-3 tsp. per 10 ounces of fondant by weight. It helps the fondant loops hold their shape. I tend to make something like this, a week or two ahead of the date I need it for.

Looks good!

I used a half-gumpaste/half-Satin Ice fondant mixture to make a bow this past Friday and the loops were dry in a few hours.

What a pretty bow!

You did a great job holding the bow loops together in the middle while hiding the blob of icing. At the bakery where I work, the bakery manager is very particular about her bows - she doesn't like anyone else doing them - but she makes a HUGE blob of icing in the middle to stick the loops into that squeezes out and shows real bad. Drives me up the wall! icon_biggrin.gif I use as little as I can to hold them together. She tells me my way is better but then she always does it her way anyway. LOL, she should check yours out. It's beautiful.
