A guy at work is leaving for another job and I need an idea for his cake. He is a computer guy and raises chickens. Help, I can't think of anything.

Why don't you create a cake in the form of a monitor and put a picture of him and chickens on the monitor saying something like we will miss seeing you plucking away on the computer. I don't know if the person is into jokes or not but it will be something he'll remember. Let me know if you think this is a good idea or if you need help with it.

I really like this idea! When you say "a picture of him and the chicken", how do you suggest I put him in the picture. Or are you saying a picture of a guy?

If you (or someone at work) has a digital camera or can use their cellphone to transmit a picture-take one of him as nonchalantly (SP??) as possible and to an edible image of him-put that on the monitor-if you could find a couple little chickens to stick on it or pecking on the keys that would be funny too.

I like that idea, but we don't have a printer. No time to send off for one either.

You should do a picture of him. If you can get a picture of him with his chickens, it will be so much better (he will not be expecting that, that's for sure). But if not take a picture of him and find pictures of chickens and stick them to the picture of him, then take it to carvel and they can make an edible image for you. Carvel is the cheapest place to do edible image.

I have read here before where someone took a picture and not having time to get an edible image just wrapped the picture in saran wrap very neatly and pressed it on the cake, did a border and just had to remove the picture before eating. That sounds like an option in a pinch!

Thanks for the ideas. We don't have a Carvel around here and Krogers won't just sell the image.

Any other ideas???

is he a computer programmer/analysit?
You can do a simple windows logo on a sheet cake and have a chicken fly out of it. and you can say something like we'll miss you.. just an idea. windows logo is really simple to pipe.

If he is a nerd, you can do an ascii theme on a sheet cake.. with the chickens pecking to create hexadecimal letters to say a message. He'll get a kick in deciphering the message.

Or if you are good at lettering, you can do funny error messages on the cake.

You can also go to a bakery that does edible image. If you bring the picture to them, they can make the edible image for you but they are going to charge you between $10 and $20 for the image. If not, just do what Nanni said, wrap the picture and saran wrap and stick it on the cake.
