Does anyone else have a problem with their tips rusting? Is there something I can do to stop that? Two of them are cheapy tips I bought and didn't expect them to last. But, two are Wilton tips and I thought they were good forever. Do you have to replace tips often? I've had them less than 2 years. I don't put them in the dishwasher (my husband did once and got a not so nice name under breath sneer when I emptied the washer and saw it). Am I doing something wrong or is it normal?
Thanks!

If I put mine into the dishwasher they seem to rust, but if I wash them by hand they are fine. I have had some of my tips since I started decorating (14 years!) but the ones I have put into the DWasher don't last b/c of rust. I just throw them away and buy new ones. I think it's because when they are in the DW the water stays on them longer and causes them to rust.

I won't let mine sit in any type of water for longer then a few minutes just to get the icing out. Are you letting them air dry? That may be the cause of it. I make sure mine are towel dried as soon as they are clean and I use the tip brush to clean them thoroughly. Hope this helps!

Ditto !
I also don't put mine in the dishwasher because it caused mine to rust when I did.

The only thing that I have seen some rust on is my flower nails! I think that is bc I use them as a heating core too! I need to replace them!

I always put mine in the dishwasher, and I have never had a rust problem. Now, if I could stop dropping them down the disposal...

I have always put mine in the tip bag then washed them in the dishwasher with no problem.

I did ruin a tip when I used it to pipe the filling for deviled eggs. I learned later the reaction with the metal and vinegar ruins the tips. Lesson learned!

hahahaha! I have that same problem. (I put mine in one of those little net bags and run them through with no problem) But they don't seem to survive the garbage disposal very well...

have they rusted? got like the orange dry powery rust or are they just tarnished, become a darker grey? Dont think i have ever seen rust on a tip, only the underside of a flower nail.

I was told if you put them in the dishwasher or leave the icing in the bag with the tips for extended periods of time that the tips will tarnish.

Wilton's tips are nickle plated so they are not suppose to rust. They have recently said that if you use vinager on them that it can mess up the finish on them.

If you leave them soaking in water for long periods they will discolor. Some dishwasher soaps can cause it as well. They are still good, nothing wrong with them.

Unless it is something that flakes off, or like rust will rub off on your finger, it is probably just a discoloration, and if it is, you don't have to throw them out.

Mine have never rusted. . .and once I didn't even clean them well ( icon_redface.gif ) and left them in the box for about two years. . .
