hello to all, i am kinda new ive been on here looking but have just recently just started to post some of my pics and join the forums, but have been addicted to this site for some time now. everyone on here is so nice sofar and very helpful so i hope you can help me.

i have a birthday cake that im doing for a friend in mid march, well its for all three of her kids birthday, ages will be 13 for the girl, 10 and 8 for the boys and i would like to do one cake for the three of them. i think it would be really cool to maybe do a three sided cake stacked with three tiers, and have a different theme on each side for each kid. so far i think that im going to have to make rounds and then cut them into triangles. im not sure. if you have any ideas please let me know. i know this sounds crazy. thank you in advance!!!!!!

How about using the large Wilton 11 x 15 pan, and making two triangles from each, if not more? A lot of work, but might be easier than making a bunch of smaller rounds then cutting them. Just a suggestion.

I do not see why you have to cut them.

I would stack the cakes together, then start from the top divide the into to thirds. Use a #5 tip with contrasting color. Then you can put the number candles on the top tier for each child then start decorating the cake. Each section will have theme for that child with their bday candle at the top.

I hope that make sense. You can also ice each tier a differant color. Lets say start with a dark green for the bottom, middle a shade lighter then the top with be lighter then the second. Then use the dark green from the bottom tier to draw your divide lines.

I hope this makes sense, I can see in my head or on paper.

Good luck.

Hello and welcome!
This doesn't sound crazy at all to me! I think it'll be really cool. Off the top of my head I am thinking that when you split the tiers, don't make the lines perfect. Have you used fondant yet? I guess I would take each tier and cover it in three pieces of fondant (one color for each kid) and have the pieces interlock on the cake but make the lines for the seams wavy. Somehow make each tier sort of match so that when you stack them the colors line up. I don't know if this makes any sense or not but I can see it in my head. The top tier could just be all three colors coming to a point and then make Happy Birthday on wires or something to make a topper. Then just put whatever theme for each kid in their color. I'm not the best at giving directions so I hope this is not completely confusing.
Good luck and I can't wait to see the result.
Heather

I did a cake for my sister & brother-in-law's 50th birthdays based on a three sided triangular base, it is in my pictures. One side was made into her another him and the back was a banner sign. I used the largest square pan cut in half diagonally to form the base. It was a great base shape to work from. Good luck and have fun with your cake !!!!
