If fondant is prepared correctly, is the texture like that of play-doh? I've been practicing making roses with play-doh and they look pretty good. Now I would like to try it with actual fondant. Also, how long will the fondant roses keep?

Thanks

Fondant is similar to Play-Doh in texture I think. As far as I know, fondant roses, once dry, will last forever. The only trouble I have with making roses out of pure fondant is that it gets too soft and never really completely dries. I usually use gumpaste for flowers and figures instead but I have heard that you can use 1/2 gumpaste and 1/2 fondant or add GumTex to your fondant to make it more stable.
I hope that answers your question.

I've never worked with gumpaste but I guess it is time that I did. Anything new scares me! lol

If you want the fondant to dry hard - add the gum-tex. Gumpaste is great to work with - pretty much the same consistency as fondant but it holds together much better when working with it (making roses and other flowers) - Nothing to be afraid of - you'll love it right away thumbs_up.gif
