I've been asked to do a baby shower cake, and told that they'd like the cake to be pink & brown, and "girly". Beyond that, the design is up to me. I've been sketching out a few ideas and need some opinions on which design you all like better. The cakes are pretty much drawn to scale, they will be 10" bottom and 6" top tier cakes. The cake will be chocolate with pink filling. I plan to use buttercream frosting. Don't hold back- I'm looking for honest thoughts! Thanks!

I should add also, the shower will be a more formal sit-down luncheon.

Hmmm.. That's a tough one, they are both great! I like plan a the best but I have to agree, b looks like it's more for a baby shower.

Thanks tabs! The topper on plan B (which could just as easily be on plan A) is a pair of baby booties. icon_smile.gif I was thinking about maybe even getting a pack of those little fuzzy pink teddy bears to set around the cakes to make them look more baby-ish. I'd better decide quick though, the shower is next weekend!

I love both and your sketches are wonderful! But I'm going with the consensus here and voting "B"...lol. I agree that it does look a little bit more baby girlish with the small flowers and the booties. The other version (from the sketch) could almost work as a wedding or bridal shower cake, even - it's so beautiful. I think it may turn out a little more formal with the piped choc. arcs? While this is a more formal baby shower, as you stated....I still think "B" is the better option. It's formal enough for the setting, without being stuffy - and still girly while representing baby-on-the-way. I'm sure whichever one you choose it will turn out beautifully! Good luck & post pics!! thumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gificon_wink.gif

I like plan A. I think it's beautiful and delicate and from what you have mentioned the couple isn't really looking for a traditional baby shower cake. So with that said I vote for A icon_biggrin.gif

Don't forget to post ur pic . Which ever you choose will be great.

I vote for A. Elegant and feminine. If they wanted babyish, they would have went with the traditional babyblocks or bears design.

I like both of them. I really like A with all th detail. to make it look more babyish = you could put the booties on top of it. I think that is the only difference in either cake looking babyish. I like plan B too but A is spectacular.

After the other's suggestions and further review on my part...I'm changing my vote!! lol icon_lol.gif Bottom of B and top of A. I think that'd be perfect. Based on those drawings, though, I'll say again that whatever you choose to do is going to be wonderful! icon_smile.gif

Although I like the idea of top of A with bottom of B, I really like the way the scrolling vines (B top) correspond with the chocolate scrolls on the bottom layer. It seems perfect together, I think if you just added the booties it would be amazing!!! icon_wink.gif
