I have made fondant roses only one time in the Wilton class at Michael's. I think they are so beautiful and would like to make some this weekend.

Can I make them out of MMF? I have only used the store bought stuff before and I added some gum-tex. If I can make them out of MMF, do I still need to add gum-tex.

Any tips or help is grealy appreciated.

Brandi

Thanks for the quick reply cakefairy. Your roses are beautiful!

Did you add gumtex or anything to the fondant?

when i added gumtex to MMF it turned out really bad...now i jsut use the regular recipe...when it gets hard i microwave and knead again and i only work with a little peice at a time so i dont microwave the whole thing 100 times...they dry hard like ceramic...i have leftovers from that cake that are like 7 months old..they are in a sealed airtight container and they are hard like ceramic..i love them!

Awesome, that is what I wanted to hear. I hate buying fondant (only done it once for class a year ago).

You have been a huge help. Thanks again.

Okay, what did I do wrong?

I made up a batch of MMF and I set out to make my roses and as I was using the fondant tool (the ball thingy) my MMF was cracking. I think my MMF was too dry. Too much powdered sugar?

I only made one rose b/c Ididn't want to waste my time.
Is there any way to fix it.

Hi fellow-Missourian!! I won't use anything but MMF for my roses! I don't add anything either. I also don't add all the powdered sugar the recipe calls for. It makes it too dry, and really hard to work with. If I can learn how to send pics to the gallery, I'd love to show you how beautiful, and life-like they can be. In fact-I'll make that my new years resolution!! hehe!

Well I decided to work with the dry fondant, but I won't do that again. The next time I will take your advice and not add all the powdered sugar.

I did happen to struggle through and make 8 decent roses. If anyone wants to know, you can remedy fry fondant with a little TLC and some Crisco.

And your roses are beautiful Quadcrew.

Thanks for all the advice!

You'll do great the next batch! I love how crisco can make that MMF work like magic! thumbs_up.gif That is great that you got at least 8 roses out of the batch. (and thank you for the compliments.....I know some of the petals need to be thinner than what I made them, but we all learn something everytime we try!)
