My hubby usually strikes out and gets me so- so gifts ( hey anything is ok but he never sees that twinkle in my eye)
So this year he told me that He wanted to get me a KA pro 6qt ....I was like OOOOOHHH really I didnt know i wanted this. I already have a 4.5 and love it. I didnt want to spend a ton so we found a refurbished one in that gun-metal grey.....NOT my favorite color....so I told him that it was ok and didnt need it to save his money. I was so excited he just even thought of this..... Then he suprised me with the one thing that I never thought i would get a pair of Mary-Jane Manolo Blahniks ....If there is one thing that i love more than cakes its shoes.....so I was in heaven. so i never even paid any attention to what else i got.

Ok ladies are you ready for this one,I know you all are gonna be jealous on this one....NOT!!!! My MIL who took the classes with me and I know that she adores me and she has never messed up on gift giving, got me a bottle of Method dish soap...I am not kidding I swear to God, that is all I got. I put on a big grin and told her I loved it, and her response was " Its in your favorite color and scent". I know it is the thought that counts but come on now there was no thought there. So several hours later hubby and I went home and opened our gifts to each other. And he did so well this year. The only thing that I am puzzled about is in my stocking hubby got me a mortar and pedastal. What the heck am I gonna go with that? So I asked hubby told me so I could do the lemon thing. What he was telling me was to zest the lemons or oranges we both got a big laugh out of that after I told him that you don't zest with that. But he tried. Sorry don't mean to sound ungrateful because I'm really not. But I got nothing for cake decorating.

TMM2001- dish soap? That's a new one....I HAD to have a mortar ad pestle...I use it sometimes to crush spices with it, and nuts too. BF and I spent Christmas in the Dominican and somehow I got a large (foot tall) wooden mortar and pestle as well...BF thinks I will be hand grinding coffee with it, like they do down there! (also got a huge bottle of clear vanilla, over a litre for $5 US)

The only cake related things I got were two books on my wishlist - Debbie Brown's Naughty Cakes and The Complete Book of Cake Decorating with Sugarpaste by Sylvia Coward. I love them both! I also got a christmas cake plate and server but it will probably be better as a cookie plate (it curves up on the edges). My DH didn't get me anything cake related but he did soooo good (as always!). He got me all clothes from New York & Co. and a necklace from there too. I don't know how he does it but everytime that man buys me jeans no matter what style even from a catalog, they fit me perfect! I try to go out and buy jeans and I can't find a single pair. He must have the magic touch. He keeps saying he should be a personal shopper!

TMM2001-

If it makes you feel any better, I got handtowels from my MIL. I love her and FIL dearly, but they always gripe about the fact that I don't keep handtowels for them when they come over. I came home one day when she was babysitting and what was hanging in my guest bath? handtowels. What did I get for Christmas? Handtowels. (Plus some other stuff, including a $50 Hobby Lobby gift certificate.) It was one of those "I'm laughing because I'm planning my revenge for next year" sort of things.

Besides that, I got two Debbie Brown cake books, ( love her!) and my husband took me to NYC to see "Phantom" on Broadway. Not a lot of cake stuff, but certainly a very good christmas... with the exception of the handtowels.

I'm a newbie but I'm spoiled to bits by DH and his family...and my mom helped quite a bit too.

From my father in law, who was my secret santa, I got a bunch of cake pans, a sifter, spatulas ( can you believe I didn't have a decent one to scrape bowls with) more tips and bags and my mom gave me a book that wasn't a gift really to her but free to me...one of those deals. It's a book about the holidays and it has cakes, cake decorating tips and homemade Xmas gift ideas because she knows I love that. Dh gets the prize, he bought me a Waterford cake stand and 2 Waterford ornaments that have nothing to do with cakes and a Thomas Blackshear ornament as well. My mom also bought me more spatulas and FIl also picked up a wonderful whisk. How crazy is it to get excited over spatulas, cake knives and whisks? I am though.

I can't recall everything because I've already mixed it in with everything else but Dh was also kind enough to let me go a bit bonkers on Ebay for a few weeks with cake stuff. I ended up with 2 of Collette's books and 2 others as well from a gift cert that BIL and SIL ( brother in law and sister in law) gave me because they weren't sure what to buy from my Amazon list and about 10 new cake pans. I think I hear UPS outside with another set of goodies. Actually, FIl also bought me a Tupperware cake carrier so now I have two, and that's awesome because I was worried about trying to transport the cakes to holiday dinners. My FIL ended up buying me a huge tote bag so that I could cart my stuff from classes to home and elsewhere and DH also surprised me with cake boxes.

Since I'm just learning and he really, really doesn't want all the cakes in the house because it's not really a food group and I have young kids, so I got cake boxes and cake boards too.

It was a great Xmas. Just reassured me that my family supported my most recent obsession...though many have mentioned the calories. I keep telling them cake is fat free as long as you skip dinner but no one believes me. I've lost 4 pounds on that diet so far. LOL!

P.S. I asked Santa for the spatulas and sifter and they came up with the rest.

It's good to be the Queen, says Caribou! LOL!

Ahh, don't feel bad. My FIL gets all of us AOL freebie discs that he must walk around apartment buildings and stealing and he actually wraps them. We also get post it notes and pens from whatever company he is working for at the time. They used to be real gifts until we all started joking about them a few years ago. This year, we each still got one. I told him I'm going to use them and paint them and make coasters and give them back to him one year. Gosh, after 12 years in the family, that's a ton of coasters.

LOL about the Method soap. I've given soap before too, but it was from France and most people really enjoyed it and it wasn't the ONLY thing I got for them. Had to note that one year I bought DH a mortar and pestel for his bday along with other items. It's still unused but he was the one that went gaga over it on a food tv show so I thought he would use it. In truth, after using them for years, they are like cast iron skillets in that they are "seasoned" and you can hand them down for generations because of that. Seriously. I would love one if I didn't still have the ones that Dh never used.

You can use the mortar and pestel to make your own lemon or vanilla extracts of sorts for cakes and I'm telling you, you will have a unique flavoring that can't be duplicated. Try a bunch of things with it. Mint. Spices. Fruit zests. Just mix and enjoy the aroma.

Everyone knew I wanted cake decorating supplies but didn't know for sure what to get so I got gift cards to Michaels and Walmart. I also got a Barnes & Noble gift card so I can buy a couple books! MIL did get me a few fondant supplies, the cutter/embosser, the ribon cutter, and the decorative punch. So not too bad! With the giftcards I've already gotten a 12 x 18 pan, the three tier square pan set and a new turntable. Hooray for Michael's coupons!!

My hubby did well this year - He got me the square pans set, fondant embossers and punches and books by Collette Peters and Toba Garret. He did not think it was very exciting gifts but I was rocking with it. Last year he got me the KA 11 quart food processor and the year before I got my KA Mixer - so he is a very good listener!! I have an airbrush on my birthday list!!

My MIL on the other hand - Pajamas - which is not as bad a soap though icon_smile.gif

i got a new kitchen aid mixer....RED i love it...i was afraid to use it because it was so nice and i loved it so much...so i just looked at it for like 2 weeks...then i made a 3 tier cake! yay! MMF is so much easier (understatement) when it's not by hand...

after making all the cakes and mixes, i couldn't get away from the sugar smell fast enough...i went to wash my hands and the only soap was vanilla sugar scent...and i was like NOOOOOOOO.
