I'm supposed to do a cake to serve 400 people at the end of February and I'm running out of ideas! I thought about doing a 4-tier round cake and making 2 10" satellites...will this be enough? The guest list has 400 people, which I doubt that many people show up, there will be finger foods, and a groomscake, so I'm thinking that my idea will work. Anyone have any suggestions? I would appreciate any help! Thanks! icon_smile.gif

You might suggest a nice looking size with sheet cakes behind the scenes to make up the difference. This is going to be massive!

This cake

will give you 250 serves, it's 2 14 inch cakes, 2 10 inch cakes and 2 6 inch cakes. Each cake was baked in a 3 inch pan, and layered and filled with lemon custard. Even if you made this to be 2 x 14 plus 2 x 12, plus 2 x 10 plus 2 x 8 plus 2 x 6, you'd still wont make the 500 serves. I'd go with the previous suggestion and make a big cake, and have the rest in a cutting cake. The 250 serve cake was massive already, and i was only able to take it to the reception because it was in three parts, and i put the flowers on site.
With this one that was pre assembled at home because the flowers were buttercream,

i had to get someone to help me carry it cause i couldnt pick it up. This one served 196, and i had to have cutting cakes for the extra servings.
hope this helps
Cheers
