Do You Ever Not Hear Back From A Client?

Hello all,
In early December I did my first paid order for a stranger. It was a simple Christmas cake and decorated cookies. She seemed thrilled when I delivered them, but I never heard back from her. Does this happen to you? Should I be concerned? TIA for any advice.
I usually do not hear back from customers until it is time for them to order another cake. Every once in a while I will have people send me an email or call me when they really like a cake. I would not worry...if she was happy when she got it then you are fine.
It's hard not to worry the first few times you don't hear back from a customer, but if she liked it when she picked it up, I wouldn't worry. Most people don't call back to compliment any business; the real compliment is when they become repeat or lifelong customers. Congrats on your first paid order!
seems that most of my work is done through email (deciding on colors or themes). I don't do a lot of cakes just for friends and friends of friends type things....
After the party I will generally send them a quick email and thank them for the order. Most people will email me back to let me know how it went. I've had a couple that haven't but then ordered another cake...I would't worry too much about it.
Most of my customers do email or write a note of thanks and appreciation but I am coming to find out that is an exception, not the rule. I never call my bakery to thank them for what I bought, so really we can't expect our customers to do that either.
I am sure they were great! Congrats!
For the most part, you just have to assume that "no news is good news". Trust me, if there were a problem they'd get ahold of you real quick.
As you go along with new orders you can easily ask how they came across your name-you will find out some will be referrals from previous unheardfrom clients-that to me is the best thanks for a job well done! Congratulations and as stated earlier-no news is good news!
When I got married, I sent thankyou letters to most of my suppliers. But not all of them. Our entertainer posted us a survey 6 weeks later asking us for feedback. Eg, were we happy with his service, what could he improve, was it value for money, would we recommend him to others etc. We had the option of remaining anonymous if we wanted to.
I thought this was a great idea.
