HI Gals
Need to make a cake in 2 weeks that is Sports Themed for a 4 and 7 years old Birthday Party.
They particulary like, Baseball, Basketball, Football
I have been looking for ideas and pix, but nothing jumps out at me...
Any ideas? I can only do buttercream, candy molds and marshmallow fondant. I am just starting out
Thanks and I hope you are all having fun today!
This website is sooo fun and addicting!

Welcome to the addiction!! Glad to have you here!!!
You could use the sports ball pan and make the baseball or basketball on top of another cake. You could put the basketball in the middle of a court made from buttercream or the baseball in the middle of a baseball diamond.
How many does it need to feed? That will give us some dimensions to go with. My ideas above may be too big for what you need!
drurys,
Welcome to CC
I did the basketball court cake and the basketball stacked on a round cake posted in my photos.
The basketball court cake was easier to do(no stars) than the stacked basketball...all those stars
The basketball court cake was for a man and the stacked basketball was for a boy and both customers loved them.
For the baseball cake, how about doing a round cake with stars on top decorated in two different colors with a stacked baseball placed close to the top edge; add grass around the bottom for the border.
Good luck and don't forget to post pictures.
Stephanie-I love your sports themed cakes-especially the one with the jersey and the half basketball! Great job!
I recently did a cake using the whole ball pan and those are kind of tricky. However, using half of the ball is much easier. Maybe you could do a baseball and a basketball on top of a sheet cake. The other idea would be to use the wilton football pan and use the two ball halves on either side of the cake board. That way you could cover all three sports. Good luck!
i don't know if you seen this yet but i was in the gallery it's all three sprots together. i don't know who did it but did a great job...

Funny, I also have to do a sports cake next week w/football, baseball, and baseball. She wants chocolate frosting which hads to the challenge. Just a regular size cake, so I don't have a lot of cake to work with. I am thinking of using the small ball pan/one half. I could make the basketball w/hoop in one corner, baseball w/face and maybe a fondant bat and cap, and a football with egg pan w/ a NE N (logo on it). She is a big Husker fan. Then put the name etc in the middle. Just thinking out loud. Otherwise make all three balls and make them into characters like you do w/M & M's. These would be on a 9 X 13 sheetcake. What do you think? Or any better ideas! Wow this site is addictive. I just had an office party at my house. They left around 11:45 and here I am! Crazy, but loving it!
I saw this and remembered your post hope this helps.
good luck

familyfun.com has a directions for a baseball hat that is cute.
I made a baseball hat for my bro's b-day years ago--Buffalo Bills!!!!!
I made 2-8 or 9 in. round layers & stacked them. I just carved the top to look like a baseball hat. I made the brim of the hat from a piece of the cake I'd carved off the "hat" part. [I got the idea from a library book, CREATIVE CAKES by Stephanie Crookston, (197--She's had cakes on Good Morning America before.]
The FUN part was copying the exact red, white & blue design on the baseball cap we were giving him for a gift--including the buffalo! I did it all in Buttercream & didn't use a "star" tip--it did take a lot of red coloring, in my case, to get the exact shade but I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Oh, don't forget the button on the top of the hat!!! I even "copied" the tag logo! All was freehanded, but you could do a FBCT for a particular team if you wanted.
Anyway, my bro was shocked & loved it!!! I'll see if I can find a picture, but it's been over 10 years, so.....
For more servings, this could easily be put on a sheet cake!
