I did my first fondant cake (5 tiers- I like to start small HA HA) this past weekend and it turned out pretty nice. The only real problem I had was that as I rolled it out, little air bubbles kept appearing. It didn't seem to matter if I kneaded it, mixed in the KA, or rolled it "as is" from the bag. Is this normal? It wasn't really apparent on the cake, but it annoyed me alot. Does anyone have tips on how to avoid this?

I was using Satinice, a metal table, powdered sugar, and a large smooth wooden rolling pin.

I noticed the exact same thing to a small degree when I used Satin Ice fondant but had never experienced it with Wilton fondant or MMF.

I didn't need to use any powdered sugar because I had no stickiness at all. It's pretty dreamy to work with but those tiny bubbles did annoy me, even though they weren't even apparent on the cake.

I wouldn't recommend putting your fondant in the KA, though! Just a nice gentle "tuck and fold" kneading is all that is necessary...you don't want to introduce any air into the fondant.

You did a gorgeous job!!

Actually, the KA dough hook was very helpful and didn't seem to make more air than hand kneading. I really enjoyed doing this and can't wait to try more. I'm going to try out the MMF tonight. I'm addicted. icon_biggrin.gif

As I'm rolling and see the airbubbles I pop them with a toothpick or other sharp object, then keep rolling. This seems to do the trick.
