Just wanted to post my last cake for the year, to be delivered on New Year's Eve. I am happy with how it turned out, the tree on the side is out of proportion and mangled, but the giraffe turned out quite good.
I finally got myself a new digital camera this week and this is the first time I've used it, i am amazed at how much clearer the pictures are, and the good closeups that are possible with it.
Hope you all have a wonderful New Year.
New Year's eve in Melbourne Australia is going to be 107F/42C.
There is a total fire ban so our bbq has been cancelled, sigh!!
Hope you all have a wonderful celebration.
Happy baking in 06

the tree is out of shape & mangled???
I think you did a great job, you should be proud of that, it's great.

It is also going to be very hot up my way Nati for New years Eve, just hoping the fires stay under control, as there have been a few close by.

Wishing everyone a safe & happy new year.

Well cakewiz, i hope the fires stay away from you. Luckily we've had no fires nearby, let's hope it stays that way. We are very far from any national parks etc.
Have a very happy new year.
Stay safe

Nati, the cake is fantastic as all of your cakes are. I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year and also hope the fire doesn't get near you. I don't like hot weather it is only in the 40's here in Tennessee, my kind of weather, especially for a gal who has hot flashes all I have to do is go outside to cool officon_smile.gif

Nati,

Your cake is beautiful. You are very talented.
Your gallery is proof, it is full of wonderful cakes.

Hope you have a Happy New Year. I can't imagine it being that hot. It is going to be in the 60's here on Sunday and that is unseasonably warm. I'm not griping about it though, as I do not care for the cold.

Nati--
All your cakes are beautiful.
Hope you have a Happy New Year. It's going to be in the upper 70s here in Texas and we are also under a burning ban. So many fires have broken out here. Stay safe and I will keep you in my prayers.

I love your cake. I live in Hawaii and everyone shoots fireworks off for new years. It's been all over the news to be careful, because last New Years some kids shooting fireworks made a huge fire and burned acres of land not too far from my house. It's a little scary when there is a wildfire, even though it's a pretty big island, it's still an island, where are we going to go if the fire gets really bad? You will be in my prayers, I hope everyone will be safe.

Your cake is so pretty, is that a pan or did you scupt it? another ?, in your gallery, which is amazing by the way, the birthday cake with the "30" on top, what are the clear things that the stars are attacted to? That is a great idea, it's different.
Thanks,
jenny

Jenny
The giraffe was cut out from 2 rectangular cakes(11"x9" and 6"x4"). I torted them, stuck them together as pictured. I put it in the freezer for about half an hour, just to firm up the cake, not to freeze it ( i dont have air con, and it was over 100 in my house yesterday), and then i cut it to shape using a paper template.
The 30 cake has wired stars, i used 20gage and 26 gage paper covered wire. It looks see through because my camera was not so good at the time. It looked really good though. The stars were made out of gumpaste.
Cheers

Your cakes are marvelous! I don't know how you do them in the heat!! We are also in a burn ban here. I can't believe it is so dry everywhere. I'll be thinking of you, Cakewiz, & all the other members from Australia! Ya'll try to stay cool & don't let the heat ruin any New Year's Plans!

Happy New Year's!!!

Thanks everyone for all your good wishes.
I am in Victoria, and even though it has been stinking hot here, today it's going to be 107, in NSW where cakewiz, dky, and a few others are, it's been worse, and there have been a lot of fires.
Hope you're all safe gals.
Cheers and Happy New Year

Cool giraffe! Please send heat to Indiana. We're not greedy. We'd settle for 60 degrees. icon_biggrin.gif

SarahJane,
Fireworks are banned in Australia, well in Victoria anyway. There will be a few fireworks displays in the city this evening, starting at 9.00pm for the families with little tikes, and then at midnight for all the revellers : )
They are allowed to be used in controlled situations, permits etc are required. Private citizens are banned from using them. So at least, we've got that safeguard, the fireworks are near the water, so we'd hope nothing will catch fire.
Let's hope your lil' island stays fire free this new years.
All the best
Nati

Karen, just go to any of Nati's posts and click on the PHOTOS icon, it will take you to her gallery to see all of her cakes.

Nati, your cake is great, very realistic! I loved it!

Here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area the temperature has been as high as 75 in the last couple of days, and we might as well all be sitting in the middle of a hay field, it is so dry...add high winds and we have a really bad situation (we are 15 or 16 inches of rain below what we had in 2004, and we didn't have a whole lot then!)

Hope everyone will be safe, and no more fires! Janice

It poured down with rain on New Year's day and the temperature dropped to around 73F(23C). It was fantastic, today it will only reach 75f(24c).
It was very welcome rain, this is in Victoria, still in NSW there are fires and homes have been lost. Let's pray for some rain for them.

Sure glad somebody got enough rain to do some good! They just gave a special news report here in central Texas, we have major fires going again, and they are having a tough time with it, the only good thing is right now it is in an area of "wide open spaces", so lets hope it will be under control before it gets a chance to destroy homes and lives!

It was actually 80+ degrees here today...there hasn't been a lot of Christmas feeling from the weather! I couldn't believe how many stupid people were still popping fireworks last night even though we in the fire ban!

And then you look at the West Coast and they are getting flooded big time...go figure! Janice
