HI ALL
I HAVE A BRIDE WHO LOVES THE OUTDOORS AND IS HAVING A SNOWFLAKE AND DEER TRACK WEDDING CAKE IN FEB. 2006
SHE HAS ASKED THAT I SOMEHOW IMPRINT DEER TACKS INTO THE CAKE AS IF THE DEER WALKED OVER THE CAKE. I HAVE WENT ONLINE AND PRINTED OFF BLACK AND WHITE TRACKS THAT I CAN USE THE COPY MACHINE TO GET THE RIGHT SIZE. BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW I AM GOING TO MAKE THE IMPRINT. I THOUGHT ABOUT MAKING CUT OUTS OF THE TRACKS AND PUTTING THEM ON, SAY WITH FONDANT BUT SHE WANTS THE TRACKS INDENTED.
SO I NEED A STAMP OF SOME SORT?
CAN'T FINE ONE AT THE STAMPING STORES?
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HAVING MY HUSBAND CUT ONE OUT OF WOOD?????(WAIT TILL I TELL HIM!! HA HA HA)
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU HAVE

Thats a neat idea! Do you just use food dye for the "ink"?

You can also make a stamp from potatoes as well. Just trace your design and whittle away at the potato. Good luck.

i think i would use the round tipped tool for making gumpaste flowers and just imprint on the fondant in the pattern that you have... it would look like deer tracks in the snow.. without any coloring.. keeping the wedding cake white (assuming its white of course)

Maybe you can make a stamp with that craft foam and just poke a toothpick in it to press into your icing.

I think polymer clay would be a good way to go - you can shape the clay to resemble a deer hoof, bake it, and use that to imprint in the frosting. You can make them the size you want that way, so they're the right scale for the cake.

If the bride wants color I would use the icicng colors not food dye. and if its to be all white just use the stamp to make the indentation on the cake.

I think the idea of makng a stamp out of a potato is a great and cheap way to do it!!!

I love this site!

Oh another idea came to me. You could carve a clean, unscented candle too like the potato to use as a stamp. I think the potato is a great idea but I would be concerned about any moisture from the potato.

I third the potato vote. We used to make potato stamps all the time when I was a kid. It would be sturdy enough that it would leave an imprint in the fondant/buttercream.

Another option is to buy a figurine (now while they are on Christmas clearance) of a (rein)deer with a hoof about the size of the print you want. Then you can just press the sterilized figurine's hoof all over into the cake .

You could use icing to make the tracks. See this photo for inspiration:

I was going to suggest doing the potato thing as well. I know that when I was in Elementary School we played around with making a stamp out of a potato. Now I also use it for making christmas wrap paper when I have what I call a "Little House on the Prairie" Christmas. icon_smile.gif

The potato is a really good idea. You could also shape some gumpaste of fondant like deer tracks and let them harden. you could then either use to make impressions or dip in coloring. Just be sure to build up a handle for you to hold on to. I saw on food Network once the Disney Wedding special, and they took a small "stamp" that looked like Mickey's head and ears, dipped it in luster dust and stamped the cake. Just another idea. Good Luck.
