I saw on TV where they were baking cookies and sprinkles were put on top and also sugar crystals...

Are those regular ones that you can get a supermarket or special ones?

I didn't know icon_redface.gif that you could do that!!!!

Nope, those are the regular ones! I also have a shortbread recipe where you add the sprinkles into the batter and b/c you freeze it before baking, the colors stay together in the batter!

one more tip i got from watching tv ...food network actually, when you put your sprinkles on your cookies, leave you cookie cutter in place then sprinkie the sprinkles on the cookie....the cookie cutter acts like a wall and you dont get a huge mess of sprinkles everywhere.
enjoy baking your cookies!!!
i'm with mommafrogs, i am all cookied out too!!!

If you put the sprinkles on before baking, without freezing, will the sprinkles melt? In order to put the sprinkles on top before baking, do you need to add, freeze, bake? Or is that only if they are incorporated into the cookie dough?

That's a good tip with the cookie cutter! Thanks!

I think they will melt slightly, not completely but they won't be keeping their actual shape.
The cookie cutter thing was on Food Network, Wilton was giving cookie tips and that's what she's referring to putting the sprinkles on before baking.
I've never done that though, only the sprinkles inside my shortbread!

mamafrogcakes can you tell me how you do the shortbread with sprinkles in the batter? I'm very interested in that. Thanks in advance!

Here you go---this is the BEST and easiest shortbread recipe. I used all different colors of the sprinkles for different holidays.

Just be careful, cutting them into little squares makes you prone to eating more!!! Haha! They are so good and cute!

I love that recipe! After I cut the dough into individual pieces, I like to toss them in sugar. It adds a nice sweetness to the cookies.

Oh, that's a good idea!!! I love the recipe too. So easy and so good. I like this recipe for shortbread better than the ones with powdered sugar in it. thumbs_up.gif
