Hello,everyone! I need help!!? icon_cry.gif
I'm making some MMF to make some 3D figurines (flowers, etc) and want them to dry quick. I read in a post a while ago, you need to add 1 teaspoon "Gum-Tex", to each 12 oz. of MMF. Now my question is: Do I add the "Gum-Tex" when I'm sifting the ingredients? Do I have to weight them, while dried, to make sure I'm doing the right measurement? Or: Do I have to add it in after it's all mixed, before letting the MMF rest? I'm kind of confused. icon_confused.gif I need some help, please!? icon_surprised.gif I will appreciate any help. Thank you in advance!
Have a Happy New Year! icon_razz.gifthumbs_up.gif

I've never used Gum-tex to stiffen fondant (MMF is just like any other fondant), but I use cornstarch (much cheaper) all of the time. Just sprinkle some on your work surface and knead it in. You'll feel the fondant getting stiff. Don't overdo it. But if you do, just knead in some shortening.

You can also knead in Tylose, so I'm sure you can just knead in gum-tex too. All of these are just drying agents that also make fondant stiffer. You may need to experiment a little until you achieve the desired effect. Just take a small piece of fondant and knead in whichever medium you choose. Roll it out and see how long it takes to dry. Then you will have an idea of what works best for you.

But I'm telling you....the cornstarch works!!

I've used Gum-Tex with fondant, and Gum-Trag with MMF. Both times, I've formed by fondant into a disk and placed some of the gum-tex/gum-trag in the middle and speading out some, then kneaded it to make sure it was evenly distributed. I've had to do that a few times so that I didn't have a puff of gum-tex/gum-trag escape on my for whatever reason. It took a little longer, but the results were worth it (see my photos for the bow, flowers, cross cake.)

HTH!

Thank you guys! I used cornstarch before, but I want my MMF to harden faster than the normal time it takes, you know, want to shape it and then let it dry. And I wanr it to dry quick. With cornstarch it'll take a lot longer to dry.
I'll try to knead in the "Gum-Tex". I also thought, you could mix it in with all the ingredients, like you do when making "Gumpaste". Well, I will try it that way and see how it works. Thank you very much, ladies!! I really appreciate it! thumbs_up.gif
