I have a cake due tomorrow and tried making red fondant. I looks soo dry but no amount of water or powdered sugar make a difference. It looks like playdough. It's not the weather either. I need it to be more elastic than it is but have no clue what to do!! Please help!
did you try the microwave for like 5-10 seconds? I read somewhere this could do the trick.
I will definitely try that. Where did you read this? Do you think kneading it will make it worse?
Kneading shouldn't do anything besides cool it down. If microwaving doesn't work try adding more crisco. Don't be afraid to add a good amount to fix it. I've never had MMF turn greasy on me from crisco no matter how much i put in. Just try a teaspoon or two spread slightly on the work surface and knead the MMF ontop of the crisco until most of it is worked in. Do this over and over until it becomes elastic enough.
Sorry i can't help more!! I hope everything works out ok!
How much did you add? The color shouldn't change the constancy. Try the crisco trick! It's always worked for me.
actually, it just might be the color. i used mmf exclusively and i always have trouble when i used either black or red coloring. it changes the consistency of the fondant and you have to add more crisco to it. also popping it in the micro for a few seconds does help. that's when my airbrush comes in handy!
