I am new to cakes. My grandmother took Wilton cake decorating classes a few years ago. Since then she migrated to Florida with all the other smart seniors. (It gets cold here in Indiana!) I inherited all her Wilton pans, bags, tips, books and other supplies. I have found a new love and am very grateful. I could use some support though. I have questions about dragees and luster dusts are they edible or not? I seem to get conflicting answers. Does any one know for sure?

First let me welcome you to CakeCentral... it's great having you here with us!! This is a wonderful place to come for ideas and help ... congratulations on all the cake pans, books, etc. you've acquired icon_smile.gif

Some say they are, some say they're not. The NuSilver you use on the dragees is the part that comes into question. I know in other countries, they're classes as edible. Here in the U.S., I think they're classed as non-elible. I'm not too sure on this though... I'm sure there are others here that know more about this...

I recently bought some silver dragees and the lady from the cake store said they were edible. I have read several posts that say they are not. If you are not comfortable...you can always tell people they are just for decoration. icon_smile.gif

By the way...I used the dragees to decorate a cake I recently did. I ate at least 4 or 5 of them and I did not get sick or anything! icon_wink.gif

And my daughter probably ate about 20...and she was fine too!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I have no problem with either.. my mom and I used dragees when I was a kid and I use luster dust now.. it is all a matter of comfort and opinion. icon_smile.gif
